Professor Slughorn froze for a long moment.
But until the end, Karan did not get any positive answer.
Professor Slughorn turned around and left the classroom without saying a word.
Lily was leaning against the door, trying to eavesdrop on the conversation taking place inside the house.
After the door opened, she immediately stood aside obediently and watched as Professor Slughorn walked away quickly.
Lily's eyes widened, she could tell that the professor was in a bad mood.
"What question did you ask?" she couldn't help but ask.
Karan shook his head.
"An unanswered question," he said.
Professor Slughorn's reaction was somewhat beyond Callan's expectations. He neither roared angrily nor questioned Callan suspiciously.
He just left without saying a word.
But Karan still noticed a clue.
After he asked this question, Professor Slughorn became particularly uneasy, even scared.
After Professor Slughorn left, Callan originally thought that his experiment was messed up.
But after that, nothing happened.
In the next few potions classes, Callan noticed that Professor Slughorn was trying his best to avoid talking to him, but he often looked at him secretly, his eyes full of suspicion.
This confused Karan because this was also a reaction he had not expected.
But he wasn't the only one confused.
"What question did you ask?"
In the potion preparation room, Lily was stirring the potion in the crucible when she asked this question for the 35th time.
Karan said nothing.
Instead, Snape advised Lily: "No matter what he asked, I believe it is at least not what we want to know."
"Don't forget last semester, and his suspicions of the Prewett professors this semester."
"If you ask me, he may have expanded his target to include all the professors at Hogwarts. Every one of them will have to be suspicious."
He said half sarcastically, half jokingly.
After getting Professor Slughorn's answer, the process of preparing the reduction potion became much smoother, and Lily no longer lost her temper. This allowed Snape to finally dare to speak out loud.
The days before were not easy.
Karan grinned.
After staring at him for a while, Lily sighed helplessly.
"It's annoying enough."
As she spoke, she stirred the potion angrily. He looked like a disgraced child laborer who had been caught without any monetary reward.
But by the end of it, her mood had improved.
"It is estimated that after three more attempts, or even two more attempts, we will finally succeed." She said happily.
After seeing the smile on her face, Snape also laughed quietly.
Only Karan remained expressionless.
Because he saw a person walking over from a distance on the other side of the corridor.
It's Narcissa Black.
She looked absolutely terrible now, her eyes were red, as if she had just cried a lot.
This even prevented her from showing that haughty expression when she threw an envelope at Karan.
"What happened to her?"
Callan asked curiously. He and Lily looked at Snape, who was also from Slytherin House.
"I don't know either." Snape shook his head in confusion.
The three of them had no choice but to focus on the envelope in Karan's hand.
"It's like an invitation."
Callan read aloud: "Mr. Sangster, please come to my office at nine o'clock this evening - Horace Slughorn."
Lily frowned.
"Nine o'clock at night? It's almost curfew by then."
Karan nodded thoughtfully.
"It seems that this should be a temporary decision made by Professor Slughorn."
Lily and Snape immediately looked at Kahlan.
They immediately thought of the unknown question Karan had asked.
"The potion isn't with you, is it?"
Lily suddenly asked in fear.
Karan rolled his eyes angrily.
"Do you think I would still blatantly attack the professor?"
Lily and Snape nodded together, they both thought so.
After rolling his eyes again, Karan left.
By the time he reached the headmaster's office in Slytherin, the time had just arrived at nine o'clock.
In the silent corridor, a knock on the door sounded.
"Please come in."
said a voice in the room.
Karan opened the door and walked in.
Whether it was due to nature or due to magic, Slughorn's office was much larger than the average teacher's room. The ceiling and walls were hung with emerald green, crimson and gold draperies, making it look like a large tent.
Several house elves were cleaning up everywhere, and it looked like a dinner party had just ended here.
Professor Slughorn was nestled in a soft sofa. He looked a little tired, holding a pipe weakly in his mouth.
"Oh, here you are."
He straightened up like a round walrus, waved the elves away, and then pointed to a sofa chair opposite him.
"Please take a seat, Mr. Sangster."
Karan sat down quietly.
Professor Slughorn stared at him closely, and a cloud of smoke continued to emit from his pipe.
After waiting in silence for a while, Karan decided to break the silence first.
"I just met Narcissa Black and she doesn't look well."
"Oh, yes, yes."
Professor Slughorn shook his head with emotion and said, "She learned some... not very good news. I guess you will also know it soon."
He did not elaborate on what the news was, but after staring at Callan for a while, he suddenly asked: "I remember you are a Muggle-born, right?"
Karan immediately looked up at him.
Slughorn stumbled a bit and explained: "Hey, kid, I don't mean anything else. Although I am the head of Slytherin, I don't have such prejudice. This is just a simple question."
"Yes, sir." Karan nodded and replied, "I am a Muggle-born."
"Well..." Slughorn nodded silently, and the sound of clicking the pipe gradually increased.
"What about your parents?" he asked again.
"They have all passed away." Karan said calmly: "I am an orphan, sir."
The sound of the clicking pipe stopped, and Professor Slughorn's face was obscured by a thick cloud of smoke, making it difficult to see the expression on his face.
"Sorry, sorry..." he whispered, as if he didn't expect such an answer.
Karan shook his head and said nothing.
But he still noticed that Professor Slughorn seemed to be curious about his life experience.
After another while, the sound of clicking the pipe sounded again.
"Then can you tell me where you learned about the Horcruxes, kid?"
