Chapter 11 Guardians and Naval Bases

That morning, Vic was having breakfast at Rebecca's house. There was a lot of joy at the dinner table. Vic and Rebecca were like hungry ghosts, gobbling up the food on the table. The old lady was no longer surprised by this scene and had a kind smile on her face.

She already knew the correct and complete version of the pirate incident a few days ago, and was very satisfied with the changes in the two children. She was also relieved that the two children could protect themselves better.

Just then, there was a knock on the door. "You two continue eating, I'll go open the door." The old lady had already eaten her fill, and she couldn't eat much at her age.

The old lady at the door was a little surprised to see Mayor Andre carrying a bag.

"Oh, it's the mayor. Please come in, please come in."

"Aunt Maria, I'm here to see Vic and Rebecca," Andre said.

"Oh, they are eating inside. Let's go over there. Mayor, have you eaten yet? Let's eat together."

"No need, I came here after eating. I have something to talk to Vic and Rebecca about." Andre smiled gently.

"Oh, never mind." The old lady felt a little regretful that she couldn't invite the mayor to dinner.

The old lady brought Andre to the dinner table and was shocked to see the two people wolfing down the food. The table was full of meat and bones. Andre knew that these could not have been eaten by the old lady, so they must have been eaten by the two children.

A little surprised at how much the two kids ate, Vic and Rebecca stopped eating and stood up when they saw Mayor Andre coming to the table.

"Mayor, why are you here?" Vic asked knowingly.

Vic guessed that the mayor was there to give him money, and maybe there was something else they wanted to discuss, after all, the mayor knew that the two men were very powerful, and a responsible mayor would definitely want to take advantage of it.

"Oh, it's like this. That day I sent those pirates to the Rogue Town Naval Base. Those two people are indeed wanted criminals." Andre raised the package in his hand and said, "Here are 800 million Baileys. I brought them to you."

"Oh, how about this, Mayor? You keep half and divide the rest among the security team that was present that day." Vic thought for a moment and said. Vic was not short of money now and he could make a lot of money by selling animal meat.

"Haha, there's no need to do that. They've got a lot of bonuses after catching so many pirates. There's no need to share it with them." Andre said with a smile.

"Is that so? Then let's not divide it. I'll save the money to buy two good swords." Vic replied.

"Yes, yes, yes, that's right. Good weapons can bring out greater strength." Andre said happily, "This time I came here to talk to you about pirates." After Andre finished speaking, he looked at Vic and said nothing more.

Vic looked at him without saying anything, waiting for his next words.

Mayor Andre organized his words and said, "Vic, Rebecca, it's like this. There is no definite news about the construction of a naval base in Rogue Town. After I came back from Rogue Town last time, the top leaders of our town held a meeting on this issue. Without the naval garrison, the security team alone will not be able to resist pirates." Andre paused after he finished speaking, and the old lady handed him a glass of water.

Andre took a sip of water and continued, "I saw your strength that day. You are very powerful. Ordinary pirates are definitely not your opponents. We don't see many powerful pirates in the East China Sea."

"So after our meeting, we decided to hire you two to be the protectors of the town. What do you think?"

"I'm sorry, Mayor Andre, we can't be the guardians of the town." Vic thought that he had to train every day and had no time to do this, which would interfere with his practice. He would also be unable to do it in a few years when he would have to go out to sea.

"Vic, don't be so quick to refuse. We will pay you a very high salary." Andre said anxiously.

"It's like this, Mayor Andre, our strength is not strong enough. We need more time to practice, so we don't have time to guard the town."

"How about this? We're just a title but no real job. We don't want any salary. We usually practice in the forest. If there's any situation, just send someone to notify us at any time. We're very fast and can get there right away. As townspeople, it's our duty to fight against pirates." Vic said seriously.

Andre frowned and thought. To be honest, the fastest and most practical solution is to bring Vic and the other two in. It would take a long time to send someone to notify them. It would be fine if nothing happened, but he was afraid of accidents.

However, seeing Vic's firm attitude, he knew there was no other way. Vic was powerful and the town still needed him, so he could only take a step back.

"Okay, let's decide it this way first. The town will send out a notice tomorrow, but you still have to get paid, so don't refuse." Andre was still prepared to pay the two of them high salaries. After all, one should be grateful for what one has received. He hoped that they would work harder after receiving the money and not be perfunctory, otherwise the town would be in trouble.

If Vic knew that he had such thoughts, he would definitely spit meat on his face. Vic didn't want the money. When pirates came, he could not only fight in actual combat, but also defend the town. This was a win-win situation, so he would be very active.

Andre left the money and left. Vic and Rebecca continued to eat, and the old lady helped them put away the money.

......

The next day, the notice that Vic and Rebecca would become the town's guardians was posted, and many people went to watch.

By the afternoon, the news had spread throughout the town. Vic and Rebecca did not feel any emotional response to the news, but the old lady was very happy about it.

As the days went by, Vic modified some of his training programs according to his own needs. Sometimes he would go under the waterfall to withstand the huge impact of the waterfall, and sometimes he would dive deep into the sea to rely on the pressure of the sea water to temper his body.

……

Another half year passed, and the construction of a naval base finally began on the island, because two more groups of pirates came to the island within half a year.

A wave of pirates finally arrived at the town of Yarlin where Vic was, but no one saw them until the pirates had landed at the dock.

Although Vic and Rebecca rushed there as quickly as possible after being notified, several people were still killed.

In the end, all the pirates were killed by the two men, leaving no one alive, but the town was still very depressed and fearful.

Another group of pirates landed from another town, and because there were no strong men like Vic and Rebecca, the town suffered heavy losses.

It was not until the mayor of the small town sent people to ask Andre for help that Vic and Rebecca learned that by the time they arrived, the pirates had already finished their looting and retreated to the seaside to prepare to board the ship.

The entire pirate group was slaughtered by the two angry men, and the pirate ship was cut in half by Wick's sword. When the mayor of the small town received the news and rushed to the beach, he vomited when he saw the incomplete corpses all over the ground. Wick felt bad because it was his first time killing someone, but when he thought of their burning, killing and looting, Wick did not show any mercy. It was impossible for him to vomit. He had killed many beasts and seen many bloody scenes.

The mayor of that small town was in awe of the two men's achievements and thanked them repeatedly.

Vic explained to the mayor: Your town is a bit far from us, so send a team of people to patrol the coast and use binoculars to observe the sea conditions at all times. If there are pirates, find us as soon as possible to avoid this tragedy.

The mayor agreed and thanked him for a lot of money, but Vic refused and asked him to distribute the money to the victims' families and the things stolen by the pirates.

Because there were more and more pirates and many bloody incidents, the mayors of several small towns on the island jointly went to Rogue Town and submitted their request at the Rogue Town Naval Base, which led to the construction of this naval base.

A part of the advance force has arrived, mainly to guide the construction of the naval base.

Because it was a naval base, the residents on the island worked very hard and everyone was very motivated, and the base was built in just three months.

The news that the naval base has been built has reached the Navy Headquarters. The Navy Headquarters sent a message that the stationed troops are still being allocated and are expected to arrive in a week.

The news was not too accurate. Eight days later, a warship arrived at the coast. There were not many navy men, only about thirty people.

After asking, the mayor learned that this group of navy members would recruit some people from the island to join the navy. With the arrival of the great pirate era, the number of navy personnel was also stretched. After many naval bases were built, they would choose to recruit nearby residents to join the army, and directly train and intern at the base before taking up their posts.

If someone performs particularly well, they will be recommended to go to the Navy Headquarters for further studies. Andre wanted Vic and Rebecca to join the Navy, but Vic refused.

Because Vic felt that it was not the right time yet. With their abilities, if they joined the navy now, no one in this branch would be able to teach them.

Vic didn't believe that a branch colonel knew the Six Styles of the Navy and Haki. Why join the branch now if he couldn't learn anything? The basic training at the branch base every day was too simple and a complete waste of time.

Vic believed that in a few years, he would be even stronger and could go to Windmill Village to block old man Garp. He believed that when old man Garp saw his strength, he would definitely take him to the Navy Headquarters for good training.

Didn't you see that it was only about half a year since Coby was brought to the Marine Headquarters by Garp (although the comics have been updated for a long time, but from the time Coby joined the Navy to the time Garp took the two to Water Seven, only a few months passed in between, definitely less than a year, because Luffy was still 17 years old). He learned two or three of the six marine styles. With Wick's talent, it is no problem for him to learn all six styles in such a long time. If there is a chance, it is not impossible for him to think about learning Haki.

The naval base on the island is Vic's last resort if he really can't meet old man Garp, so he won't pay attention to it now and just concentrate on practicing.
