Chapter 40: Guardian Spell
The early spring wind still brought with it the chill of winter, and his face felt itchy from the slapping of hair. Draco groaned and opened his eyes in confusion. Above his head was an uncovered, brilliant starry sky, and the stars sparkled brightly under the light.
"Awake?" Della, who was lying on the roof with Draco, stood up slightly and supported her head, then tilted her head to look at the blond boy beside her.
"Why am I... here, I remember I..." Hey, what was I doing just now? ?
"Haha, it's just a prelude to a surprise. No need to delve into it, Draco." Della supported herself with her hands and lay down again, her eyes lingering on the stars in the sky. She drew out her wand and pointed it at the sky. "Are you ready to accept my thank you gift?"
"Magic? What kind of thank you gift is this..." Draco lifted the blanket and muttered as he looked at Dela's wand pointing towards the sky.
"Be prepared." Della waved her wand. Her white wrist was faintly visible as she waved it, gleaming white in the moonlight. "Draco, Draco!"
Before Draco could ask in surprise, a huge golden light whizzed out from the tip of Della's wand, and with a deterrent roar, it climbed up to the air in the form of a dragon. The golden dragon kept swimming, and the golden light brought by its tail never dissipated, outlining a big D.
"Do you want to try it?"
The golden evil dragon above his head was still howling and wandering around. Della's gentle, yet bewitching voice came to his ears. Draco almost subconsciously took out his wand. Della's gentle hand followed his movement and grasped his wrist, and waved his hand deftly.
Beneath the stiff body is a beating heart.
"Just like I did just now, say my name, Draco."
Her voice was as bewitching as a siren, and Draco followed her lead, reciting it aloud unconsciously.
“Della, Della!”
The giant black snake silently stretched out to the sky, dissolving into the night and then appearing under the stars. The unique agility of snakes made its movements quite evil. After outlining a D with the tip of its tail, it continued to chase the golden evil dragon. The two illusory and heavy phantoms chased and played with each other above the shed, and then entangled together, casting a little bit of mist over the two people's heads.
Draco opened his eyes wide in shock, his gray-blue eyeballs kept moving with their movements, and the two big Ds of gold and black were pressed together in front of his eyes, just like two small people close together on the roof.
"What kind of magic is this..." he muttered.
"A little romance between dark wizards, um..." Della paused, as if she was organizing her words, "I just happened to see this. Although it seems illusory and wonderful to us, it is actually a very intimidating dark magic."
"Dark magic? No no, dark magic doesn't work like this..."
"How can I tell you, ah, the Patronus Charm, I should have thought of this metaphor, because the person who created this magic jokingly called it the Guardian Charm." The giant creature above her head was still entangled, and Della looked at the black snake with narrowed eyes. "This spell creates monsters based on names. The strength of the monster depends on the strength of the person being called. You see, the golden dragon can't stand the black snake anymore, which means I'm a little stronger than you."
"Humph," Draco snorted unconvinced, "It's not even the end yet, how do you know I'm weaker than you!"
"Haha, I'm surprised that golden dragon could last this long."
As he was speaking, the black snake that was clinging to the golden dragon finally bit its soft neck. The golden dragon, which was bitten on its soft spot, began to struggle, and the black snake stuck even more closely to it, making them look even more affectionate.
After several rounds of entanglement, the golden dragon was finally defeated. The golden dragon body suddenly disintegrated after the last few swings of its tail. Almost at the same time, the black snake also disintegrated. The golden and black light spots formed a dazzling circle in the air, continuously pouring out light spots.
"If there is no external enemy, it will kill its own kind, or even hurt itself, and eventually it will become a beautiful sight to behold. It is a rare and beautiful magic in the world of black magic."
"The romance of the dark wizard..." Draco unconsciously recited what Della had said before, feeling melancholy and shocked. He unconsciously stretched out his hand to catch the scattered stars, but the stars passed through his palm and turned into nothingness.
"I told you that you're cute, Draco." Della glanced at the letters that were also beginning to disintegrate in the air, and looked at the innocent boy with a smile in her eyes. "By the way, I need to remind you not to cast this magic casually, especially don't read out other people's names casually. The black magic that can be cast with just a name can have backlash that you can't imagine."
"Then I, what happened just now, was I okay?" The boy's voice was obviously panicked.
"I told you, I've made some preparations for the surprise. I think you can now pronounce my name to cast a spell, and you can use it to protect yourself when you are in danger. I'll tell you when my name loses its effect on you."
"How can it protect me? And how can it lose its effectiveness?"
"In fact, it is very aggressive and even violent when facing an enemy. Probably only a similar spell - I mean another protective spell - can subdue it. This is not an easy-to-control magic. I hope you will be more cautious when casting it."
"Of course, I hope you can keep it as a little secret between us." Facing Draco's dazed look, Della winked slyly, "Just think of it as a way to avoid the Ministry of Magic's scrutiny. Let this spell be kept between us, Draco."
"Okay..." Facing Della's shining eyes, Draco forgot about his other unanswered question and agreed with a blushing face.
What really made Draco realize that this spell was a thoroughly black magic was the heated discussion at the long table during lunch the next day. He was yawning sleepily at the time, and a series of words such as "golden dragon", "black snake", "entanglement", "wailing", "shrieking shack" and so on rushed into his ears, which made him perk up all of a sudden.
Draco felt guilty, but he pricked up his ears to listen to everyone's discussion, and soon pieced together the full picture of the incident from the outsiders' perspective.
There were cries from the Shrieking Shack again last night (Merlin, that's the roof of the Shrieking Shack!), and then there was a huge golden dragon and a black snake fighting on the roof, and they let out terrifying roars.
However, the Shrieking Shack is still as inaccessible as ever. People from Hogsmeade also came to Hogwarts this morning, and just now, the school announced the suspension of weekend exercises in Hogsmeade.
Merlin! The dragons and snakes last night were not as scary as they said. Is this spell really so evil in the eyes of outsiders? It seems that it really cannot be used casually.
Draco subconsciously looked at Della opposite him. She was enjoying her lunch as usual. When she noticed his gaze, she gave him the same sly wink as last night.
Draco lowered his head in panic and shame. He felt guilty about his unconscious behavior, but in his heart he felt more of a sense of superiority hidden behind others, which made him proud. His slightly haggard face was also stained with a faint blush, which made him look much better.
Well, she is quite interesting. Maybe she really is a lost wizard bloodline, after all, she is so proficient in black magic.
Draco thought so and took a sip of the pumpkin juice at hand.
