Chapter 52 Tell or Not Tell
After everyone has left.
The room, which was crowded and noisy just now, suddenly became quiet and empty.
As people left and the tea got cold, the mayor couldn't help feeling a little melancholy.
He took out a pair of reading glasses from his pocket and put them on himself, then slowly stood up and walked to the side. He raised his head and stared at a few yellowed old photos on the wall in a daze. The photos showed his younger self and his comrades who had fought side by side with him.
"My old friends, I'm sorry. Looks like you'll have to wait a little longer for me. I'm really worried about you! Every time you say it'll be soon, and I might have to go down to accompany you in the next battle, but in the blink of an eye, more than 30 years have passed! Good people don't live long, but evil people leave a legacy for thousands of years! Hahahaha!"
...
"Dong dong dong! Dong dong dong!"
Just as his thoughts were immersed in memories, there was a sudden knock on the door, bringing the old mayor back to reality.
"It's so late, who is it?"
The mayor frowned and asked, reaching for the knife hidden under the table with some caution.
"Mayor, Mayor, it's me, Forrest Gump."
Forrest Gump hid outside for a long time and heard some of the more heated arguments. Now that everyone had left, he hesitated for a long time before finally running over and knocking on the door.
"Wait a minute!"
Hearing Forrest Gump's familiar voice, the mayor relaxed his guard, put the knife back, walked to the door and opened it.
"Why are you here so late at night instead of going back to sleep?"
The mayor asked curiously.
"Mayor, I took Lord Ger for a walk today. Before we left, he gave me some food and two bottles of beer. I wanted to bring some for you to try."
As Forrest Gump spoke, he took the things out.
"Oh? You actually know how to take advantage of others, not bad."
"Hahahaha!"
The old mayor showed a look of surprise when he heard this. This kid also knew how to accept gifts from others and use them to honor himself. He finally got it.
The old mayor smiled with relief.
It was a rare occasion for A-Gump to be praised. He scratched his head a little embarrassedly and said happily:
"Roasted chicken! It smells delicious! Hehehe, I didn't dare to take it at first, but Lord Gur said that if I didn't take it, I would have to find someone else to be my guide tomorrow. He also wanted to give me 8 Baileys as a tip but I refused. I was afraid of making him angry so I didn't dare to refuse him a second time."
"boom!"
As soon as Forrest Gump finished speaking, the old mayor slapped him so hard that his eyes almost popped out. He covered his head with a painful expression and asked:
"Mayor, why are you hitting my head again all of a sudden?"
The mayor beat his chest and stamped his feet, then grabbed Forrest Gump by the collar and yelled:
"You loser, not only will I hit you on the head, I'll also slap you to death! He wanted to give you money, why didn't you take it? You didn't even want 8 Baileys, just to get this little food. Do you think you should be beaten?"
"That's 8 Baileys. Do you know how much food 8 Baileys can buy? What's the use of a roast chicken?"
"But, but we have already paid Lord Gel for being a guide. How can I take his money again?"
Forrest Gump didn't dare to look the old mayor in the eye, but he still insisted on his own idea.
The mayor covered his face with a painful expression, feeling helpless. He kept telling himself:
Don't be angry! Don't be angry with this idiot! He is just stubborn like this! He has always been like this and he will never change in this life. There is no hope for him.
It’s ridiculous that I thought this kid finally got it.
In fact, he has always been conflicted in his heart. The old mayor has always been caring towards this silly young man. The main reason is that he saw the innocence and kindness in Forrest Gump that he missed, just like the villagers in that small fishing village thirty years ago.
This is a quality that other small town residents have gradually lost over the past few decades, but on the other hand, the old mayor feels that a pure and kind person like Forrest Gump was born in the wrong era, and it would be difficult for him to survive there. So he has been trying to instill some bad ideas into him, so that he can understand the reality of society and the sinisterness of human hearts as soon as possible. But Forrest Gump's heart is not as weak as his body, and he has made up his mind about something that cannot be changed no matter how hard he tries.
You can beat me to death, but you can't convince me!
"That's all."
The old mayor accepted his fate.
"Go back to sleep. I get angry when I see you."
"Get out of here!"
Forrest Gump had no choice. It wasn't the first time he got scolded anyway. He could only scratch his head and apologize while walking towards the door.
"and many more!"
The mayor suddenly stopped him and pointed at the bag in his hand and said:
"How tactless! Leave the roast chicken! Didn't you bring it for me to taste?"
"Oh, yes, I almost forgot. Sorry, Mayor."
Forrest Gump ran back with a silly smile, put the roast chicken and beer on the table, and was about to leave when he heard the mayor say behind him:
"You should sit down and eat something with us."
"No need, Mayor, you eat, I've already eaten."
After saying this, Forrest Gump ran away.
"Doesn't this brat know how to lie?"
The old mayor cursed with a smile, a helpless expression on his face.
Close the door again, insert the pin, and go back into the house.
Although he was old, people who practiced martial arts had amazing appetites. The mayor finished the roast chicken on the table in no time.
"belch!"
After drinking the last half bottle of beer in one breath, the mayor burped with satisfaction.
"It smells so good. No, I have to ask where I bought this roast chicken tomorrow. Why is it so delicious?"
(Ger: Bought it in Orleans)
...
Early the next morning, Forrest Gump drove the carriage to the door of the hotel where Gul was staying and waited.
After learning that Black Bull and his gang were going to harm Gel and his group, Forrest Gump was conflicted for the whole night. Lord Gel was very good to him, and if he didn't tell him, his conscience would be condemned. If he told him, he would be dead if Black Bull and his gang knew that he was the one who informed them.
"Ahhh, should I tell Lord Gol about this?"
Forrest Gump paced back and forth at the entrance of the hotel.
"Tell, don't tell, tell, don't tell, tell...don't tell."
Forrest Gump picked a small red flower from the flower bed at the entrance of the hotel. He pulled the petals and muttered to himself, hoping that God would give him some guidance.
"Hey, it's so early, Forrest."
Just as he pulled off the last petal, Ger suddenly patted him on the shoulder from behind and greeted him.
"what!"
Forrest Gump was concentrating on casting a spell when he was startled by Gul's sudden appearance, interrupting his chanting. He forgot whether to tell or not about the last petal.
"Morning, morning, Lord Ger."
Forrest Gump quickly threw away the flower stalk in his hand and greeted Ger nervously.
"You didn't sleep well last night, did you? I don't see much nightlife in your town. Did you go on a date with a girl?"
Seeing the dark circles under Forrest Gump's eyes, Ger joked.
"No, no, no, that's impossible. How could a girl like someone like me?"
A-Gump smiled bitterly and laughed at himself, feeling a little lonely.
Yes, how could anyone like a guy like me who is poor, incompetent and not smart? Girls should like a guy like Captain Gur who is handsome, rich and speaks well, right?
"Well, be more confident. I think you're a good person. At least you're honest. Many girls will eventually want to marry an honest man."
Ger patted his shoulder comfortingly.
"Really? Thank you, Lord Gel!"
Forrest Gump was deeply moved. Except for the mayor, few people in the town were willing to say a word to him.
Lord Gel is indeed a gentle and kind person!
A-Gump's eyes suddenly became firm. He looked around to make sure there was no one around, then pulled Geer onto the carriage and said in a panic:
"Lord Ger, run! Someone wants to harm you!"
Gul first looked at Forrest Gump with some surprise, then seeing that he looked nervous and didn't seem to be joking, he asked with interest:
"Oh? What? Who wants to harm me?"
