Chapter 3: First meeting with the young lady
19xx, location, Tibet, a village, xx Road
On a muddy mountain road, a heavy APC infantry fighting vehicle slowly drove by, leaving deep marks on the slippery mud. Due to a heavy rain not long ago, the road became extremely difficult to travel, and ordinary military vehicles could not cope with such complex road conditions. Therefore, this APC infantry fighting vehicle became everyone's first choice. With its powerful off-road capability and stability, it moved forward steadily in the mud.
Inside the car, the atmosphere was somewhat tense. An officer of the same rank as Lyle was looking at the scenery outside the window, but in his heart he was thinking about the upcoming mission. He turned his head and said to Lyle, "Mr. Lyle, when we get to our destination, could you please be my lobbyist and help me speak a few words?" There was a hint of pleading and expectation in his tone.
Lyle frowned slightly when he heard this. He knew what the officer was talking about and the importance of this mission. He took a deep breath and tried to make his tone sound more relaxed: "I'll do my best. After all, it's not easy to change the little girl's mind."
In fact, Lyle knew Miss Yunru's idea. Before the war, she had always dreamed of applying her technology to people's livelihood and bringing convenience and progress to human life. However, in Lyle's view, although this idea is correct, it is inappropriate. He believes that in this world where the Third World War is about to break out, if the country's military expenditure is not used to develop technology and improve combat effectiveness, it will have to wait until the war is defeated to pay compensation. Moreover, as Ai Gong said: "Dignity is only on the edge of the sword, and truth is only within the range of the cannon." In this era when the Third World War is about to break out, the joining of a genius scientist is crucial to the future of the country.
However, Lyle also knew Miss Yunru's stubbornness and persistence. Her heart was full of love for technology and humanity, and her dreams and ideals were so beautiful and lofty. Therefore, Lyle decided to do his best to convince her and let her understand the importance of her technology to flower planting in this special period.
As the infantry fighting vehicle continued to move forward, Lyle was constantly thinking about how to communicate with Miss Yunru. He knew that this would be a difficult negotiation, but he also believed that as long as both parties could be honest and communicate rationally, they would eventually be able to find a win-win solution.
A few hours later, the APC arrived at its destination - a small house - I think.
"Two sirs, this is definitely the place." The driver confirmed after comparing it with the map.
"Okay, we're here," the officer said, and got out of the car with Lyle. Then, four riflemen and a flamethrower got out of the car, their faces full of seriousness and tension.
"You set up sentries around here first and pay close attention to the surrounding movements." The officer ordered, "Mr. Lyle and I will go to negotiate with the other party. Remember, you are not allowed to intrude without permission unless you hear our order."
"Yes, sir!" The soldiers answered in unison, their voices loud and firm. As soon as the words fell, they quickly took action and each found a suitable position to be on guard.
The officer and Lyle walked slowly towards the quiet and deep house. The stone bricks in the yard seemed to tell the vicissitudes of time. The sunlight shone through the gaps in the treetops and fell on the ground in patches, forming patterns of light and shadow interweaving.
As soon as the two entered the yard, a little boy with pink hair suddenly appeared in front of them. His eyes widened, and he seemed to be very surprised by the two uninvited guests. In this remote place, apart from his parents, there would be almost no outsiders visiting, let alone two strangers in military uniforms.
Lyle couldn't help but feel curious about this little boy. According to his memory, Yunru didn't seem to have any relatives other than her parents in the world of Soul Ending. The appearance of this boy made him feel a little confused.
The officer seemed to notice Lyle's doubts. He took out a photo from his briefcase and handed it to the little boy. "Hello, kid, do you know this person?" The woman in the photo was Miss Yunru. She had a pretty and dignified face, revealing a noble temperament.
The little boy took the photo and looked at it carefully for a moment, then raised his head and looked at the officer and Lyle with curious and vigilant eyes. "This is my sister, what do you want to see her for?" His voice was trembling, and he was obviously a little nervous about the arrival of these two strangers.
The officer smiled slightly, trying to sound friendly. "We have something important to discuss with her. Please inform your sister."
The little boy nodded, and seemed a little hesitant, but he turned and ran into the house. Not long after, he came out with a girl who also had pink hair. The girl looked older than the little boy, and her face had an innate noble temperament, but also revealed an obvious impatience.
"Xiaoyun, go back to your room first." The pink-haired girl gently touched the little boy's head, with a hint of concern in her voice. The little boy nodded obediently and walked into the room.
However, just as the little boy was about to enter the house, he suddenly turned around and shouted to Lyle, "Excuse me, sir, could you please come with me?" There was a hint of urgency and pleading in his tone.
Lyle was slightly startled, then looked at the officer. The officer nodded slightly, indicating that he agreed with his action. So Lyle followed the little boy into the house.
The layout of the house was simple and warm, and the air was filled with a faint floral scent. The little boy brought Lyle to a small room and gently opened the door. There was a desk and a small bed in the room, which looked a bit simple but tidy.
"Sir, please wait here for a moment." The little boy said, and then turned and left the room. Lyle stood at the door, and an inexplicable emotion surged in his heart. He seemed to be able to feel that although this family was ordinary, it was full of warmth and affection.
Not long after, the little boy came back with a yellowed photo album in his hand. "This is a photo of my sister when she was a child. She has always cherished this photo album." He said as he flipped through the album and pointed to a photo in it, saying, "This is a photo of me and my sister when we were children."
Lyle looked at the little girl with a bright smile in the photo and couldn't help but sigh at the passing of time. He suddenly realized that no matter what kind of world you are in, family affection is the most precious thing. He also became more determined to help Miss Yunru, because there are so many people in this world who silently care about her and protect her.
"Sir, you don't seem to be from this world." Yun Mo's voice was light, but it seemed to have a penetrating power that went straight to Lyle's heart. This sentence was like a flash of lightning, instantly breaking the tranquility in his heart.
At that moment, Yun Mo's soft whisper was like a stone thrown into a calm lake, stirring up ripples that made Lyle stunned. An indescribable surprise appeared on his originally calm face.
Before Lyle recovered from his surprise, Yun Mo stretched out his slender fingers and gently pointed at the NOD Brotherhood logo hanging on the inside of his clothes. The logo was originally hidden by the clothes and difficult to see, but Lyle's coat was not buttoned, and a little clue was revealed as soon as he sat down. As long as you have normal vision, you can vaguely see the unique pattern.
"So, you are not from this world either, little Yun Mo." Lyle finally came back to his senses, his eyes flashing with a complex light, both surprised and relieved. He looked at Yun Mo, and he was sure in his heart that this child was also a traveler who came from another world.
Yun Mo just nodded gently without saying much, as if all this was within his expectations. His eyes revealed a calmness and wisdom beyond his age, which made people look at him with new eyes.
Seeing this, Lyle reached out and gently rubbed Yun Mo's short pink hair, his eyes full of tenderness and comfort.
"Don't worry, little Yun Mo." He said softly, "I am also a fan of the eldest lady. I will do my best to make her life better and reduce her future burdens."
Hearing this, Yun Mo looked up at Lyle, with a glimmer of gratitude in his eyes. He said softly, "Thank you, Mr. Lyle."
The two people's eyes met at this moment, as if an invisible bond was quietly established between them. They both understood that they were not alone in this strange world, because of each other's existence, they felt a little warmth and hope.
While the two time travelers were communicating, Yunru and the officer were having another round of argument.
"I think I should have made it very clear last time that I will not agree to join you. This decision is firm and unquestionable." Yunru's eyes were firm and indifferent, as if she had already expected the other party to come to her again, and she was not surprised by this situation.
The officer opposite looked at Yunru with a smug smile on his face. He tried to persuade her with sweet words: "Ms. Yunru, it is a very honorable thing to serve the country! You should be proud of it. And with your talent and ability, if you can join us, you will definitely shine and become a pillar of the country. We can assure you that we will never take any measures to restrict your freedom. You can give full play to your talents and abilities."
However, Yunru didn't buy his words. She replied coldly: "Haha, this is ridiculous! How credible are your so-called 'guarantees'? I have seen too many such promises, which eventually turned into constraints and restrictions. I will not believe anything you say again. Please go back. I have nothing to discuss with you."
When the officer heard Yunru's words, his face suddenly turned gloomy. He said with a smile on his face, "Okay, okay, okay... I didn't expect you to be so ungrateful! We invited you with good intentions, but you didn't appreciate it. You refused to drink the toast but insisted on drinking the penalty wine. Don't blame us for being rude! Mr. Lyle, let's go."
"Wait a minute, Officer Chen, can you let me try?" Lyle said quickly. He complained in his heart, 'They asked me to be a lobbyist, but I didn't say a word. If I leave like this, I will be nothing.'
"Okay, Mr. Lyle, you give it a try, and you can come to me when you're done talking." The officer said and left the yard without looking back.
"Huh, Mr. Lyle, if you also want me to join the military, then please go back." Yunru glanced at Lyle and said.
"Ms. Yunru, I beg you not to jump to conclusions so early. Please allow me to show you something." Lyle's voice was low and firm. He slowly placed his left hand on the top of Yunru's head, as if he was exerting some mysterious power.
Yunru felt a warm energy surge into her mind. She closed her eyes involuntarily and began to watch the clips that played like a movie.
The first thing that caught my eye was the backs of the group of people leaving. As night fell, the surrounding scenery became blurry and cold. Suddenly, a group of soldiers broke into Yunru and Yunmo's residence and violently took the siblings away. The officer who met again had a hideous face. In order to force Yunru to agree, he allowed his men to beat Yunmo brutally. Every punch and kick was like a heavy hammer falling on Yunru's heart.
Then, the scene turns to Yun Mo's days studying abroad in Su Nien. He was in a strange country, but he always felt the close surveillance of the military. The ubiquitous pressure made him breathless. And the diagnosis written by the doctor made Yun Ru feel heartbroken - "severe depression, moderate schizophrenia... and many serious psychological problems and some physiological symptoms caused by malnutrition." These words hurt her eyes like needles.
What made Yunru even more unbearable was that she saw Yunmo trying to end his life in despair. He mutilated his body, leaving shocking scars. The greedy doctors took advantage of his predicament to blackmail him under the arrangement of the military. If he didn't agree, they would tell Yunru about Yunmo's situation, trying to tie Yunmo to the military chariot to better threaten Yunru. In order not to let her worry, Yunmo kept this secret in his heart. In order to raise enough money every month, Yunmo even ate toothpaste and drank tap water to fill his stomach.
