Chapter 29 Black Mist Crisis

Chapter 29 Black Mist Crisis
As soon as the captain of the guard said this, everyone else's hearts sank to the bottom.

For adventurers, it is common sense not to spend the night in the wilderness and dense forests, let alone in the notoriously dangerous Black Mist Forest, the situation is simply too bad.

Beaman opened his mouth and cursed: "Mr. Marshall, I'm afraid your brain is poisoned. My brother is a pharmacist, how about asking him to take a look at you?"

"I-I don't want to do that either."

Marshall had a hard time speaking out his feelings and felt very upset.

"Ivan is a pharmacist. We really need him to check on you, Captain."

"It would be best to pry it open with a sword and see if it contains a real eyeball."

"Use the shield to smash the excess flesh off his face, so that his eyes can be seen."

Mercenaries were mostly a bunch of outspoken people. When they thought about how they were tricked by outsiders and put into a dangerous situation, they would say whatever was on their mind. Their sarcastic remarks continued, making Marshall's face turn red and even uglier.

Ivan touched his nose, feeling that he was also offended.

"Alright." Liede stopped the mercenaries and they calmed down. "Now is not the time to relax. Keep going. Even if we can't get out of the Black Mist Forest, we have to get as close to the edge as possible."

This is true. The closer you get to the depths of the Black Mist Forest, the greater the dangers are, and vice versa.

"Yes, yes, yes, Lord Reed is right!"

Marshall seemed to have grabbed a life-saving straw. After a quick identification, he continued to lead the way.

After a few seconds, he turned back with his three subordinates because the others did not follow him at all, including the team leader Liede.

"What do you think?" asked Reed.

He looked at the mercenaries, and finally his eyes fell on the deputy leader Gro.

Gro looked around carefully and thought for a while before saying, "Captain, go this way." The direction he pointed was about 30 degrees away from the direction Marshall took.

In the crowd, Ivan was also trying his best to identify the direction, but unfortunately he had no knowledge in this area and did not understand the Black Mist Forest, so he wisely did not speak.

"Walk."

After a pause of two or three seconds, Led signaled to continue on the road, which was exactly the direction chosen by Gro.

This time, Liede walked in the front, with the others following closely behind, and Marshall and others could only keep up.

Soon, the light above the forest began to fade, and coupled with the increasingly thick fog, everyone's vision was severely obstructed. However, they were still within the Black Mist Forest, and it was unknown how far they had gone into it.

"Find a place to stay."

Following Reed's announcement, everyone had to accept the fact that they had to spend the night in the Black Mist Forest.

The Giant Shield Mercenaries had traveled far and wide and had experience in camping in shallow forests, so they simply found a relatively open and flat location, cut down trees on the spot, cleared obstacles around them, and prepared wood.

Split the wood, drive the piles, erect double rows of piles, place logs between the piles, and soon something like an animal pen takes shape.

Some mercenaries continued to reinforce the wooden fence by driving piles outside, some mercenaries added slanted pointed poles to make the surrounding area into a row of simple barricades, and hung a number of bells for warning on the outer periphery. Some people used their clothes to make a few torches for use.

There is a pile of wood blocks and branches of different sizes in the middle of the wooden fence, which can be used for campfire.

By the time everything was done, it was completely dark.

Everyone huddled together in the wooden fence, finally finding a simple shelter.

The bonfire was not lit.

Someone asked, "Want to light a fire?"

This is a question worth thinking about. If it is an ordinary shallow forest or wilderness, lighting a bonfire can undoubtedly drive away wild beasts, but in a misty forest, no one knows whether it will attract some monsters.

"I have a fluorescent stone here, which was given to me by the Baron. It can bring some light."

When this question was raised, Marshall found a sense of existence. He took out a stone that was emitting a green glow. He stretched out his hand and showed the fluorite to everyone.

I saw a hand reaching out from the darkness and appearing in the green light. The light disappeared in an instant and the surroundings returned to darkness again.

"Where's the glowstone?"

The fluorite was taken away by someone. Marshall waited for a while but no one came back. The key point was that he didn't know who it was. He was dumbfounded.

"Quiet."

"List--"

"Be careful and alert, and we'll deal with the rest tomorrow morning."

It was pitch black all around, and even the people on the opposite side could only see a vague outline and couldn't tell who was who.

Without Lede's support, Marshall could only shut his mouth helplessly and sigh secretly. Nothing had gone well for him in recent days. Even Miss Lisa, who was in love with him, had changed her mind.

There was a faint chewing sound inside the wooden fence as everyone was eating the dry food they brought with them.

Ivan was no exception. He followed Biman's example and placed his shield on the side with the wooden fence. He then sat sideways beside the shield and ate the dried venison strips in his hand.

He was thinking, since they had already built a wooden fence, why not just build a wooden house? Just like the wilderness survival games he had seen, it would not be a difficult task to accomplish with the power of everyone.

No, this world has tree monsters, flower spirits and other things, you might be caught in a trap, with nowhere to escape. He felt a little amused at his own thoughts, the world was different now, how could his experience be used?

"Oh, how unlucky it is to encounter such a thing on my first mission."

He sighed silently in his heart, hoping that this night would pass peacefully.

At this moment, a hand touched him lightly from behind, and then stuffed something into his pocket. Ivan reached out and found a stone, only the size of a thumb. He thought of something.

He carefully opened a gap and took a glimpse into the pocket, and it was indeed the captain of the guard's fluorescent stone.

Ivan smiled silently, feeling inexplicably at ease, because the person sitting behind him was his father.

The night was not peaceful. The sounds in the jungle came one after another, like the crying of a baby, the unwilling sigh of an old man, and the chanting with strange accents, which made people dare not let down their guard.

"Dingling bell~."

About four or five hours later, a clear bell sound broke the original atmosphere.

Everyone understood that something had intruded into the area, and it was probably a small wild beast.

Perhaps they were frightened by the noise, and there was no movement after a while. They thought the thing had left until a bell was heard from the other side. Everyone couldn't help but become alert, and many of them held a shield in one hand and a sword in the other.

There was a clear sound of something falling outside the wooden fence, and then the wild beast rushed into the fence.

Ivan noticed his father's movement, and there were several sounds of swords clashes. The prepared men dealt with the beast that broke in, and then threw the beast's body back into the jungle.

"A blind mountain cat."

Led returned to his seat, and Ivan heard him speaking, which seemed to have taken little effort.

A few more hours passed and it was already the second half of the night.

During this time, wild beasts occasionally broke in. Some were scared away by the sound of the bells, while others rushed into the wooden fence without knowing the danger and were killed by the mercenaries.

Ivan didn't take any action because there was no tacit understanding between him and the mercenaries, and taking action might easily hurt others.

He thought it would continue like this until dawn.

Suddenly, everything around became quiet and those strange noises could no longer be heard.
