Chapter 31-Equality
Chapter 31-Equality
The sharp sound of the suona pierced through the eardrum like a dagger, piercing the originally quiet air in the streets. Feng Yusu hid between the angles of two buildings and poked her head out slightly.
In the empty streets, two lines of servants in white clothes were seen parading through the city in casual steps. The two leading ones were blowing trumpets, and the two at the end of the team had white flowers on their bodies. As they walked, they sprinkled tiny red paper flowers on both sides of the road.
In the middle of the team, four servants were carrying the four corners of the statue's base respectively. The figure on the lotus platform with a flying posture was the snake god.
Mr. He's servants invited the snake god out of the ancestral hall.
This strange scene almost made the already nervous Feng Yuxu scream out loud, but thinking of Ning Zhe's instructions when they parted, she tried to calm herself down, covered her ears with her hands, buried her face in her chest, curled up her body and did not move.
"Don't listen to, believe or accept anything anyone says or does..."
"Don't listen to, believe or accept anything anyone says or does..."
"Don't listen to, believe or accept anything anyone says or does..."
Feng Yusu kept muttering to herself, not daring to move.
The shrill sound of suona was getting closer and closer. The team that was coming to invite the gods came from the direction of the ancestral hall and approached the place where Feng Yusu was hiding. The feeling of being so close and the uneasiness of being alone made her even more frightened.
But suddenly, for some reason, the suona sound stopped.
"Eh...eh?" Feng Yuxu raised her head and glanced at the street with tearful eyes. The team carrying the statue of the snake god had stopped at some point.
There was a pool of bright red blood on the uneven bluestone slab. It turned out that a young man at the head of the team who was holding a suona had tripped and fallen to the ground, with a bleeding head.
“So… So that’s how it is…” Feng Yuxu’s doubts were immediately resolved: “They have also violated a taboo. Offering sacrifices to the snake god is also offering sacrifices. Now they don’t know where to go with the snake god, so their luck is very bad. They will fall down on the road…”
This thought did not last long. Feng Yuxu shook her head desperately to dispel the unnecessary thoughts. She forced herself not to think about what happened on the street. She lowered her head again as Ning Zhe instructed, acting like an ostrich who didn't listen to anything or interfere with anything.
After a moment, the sound of suona started again.
The leader servant who had fallen and had a bloody head didn't seem to care at all that blood was still dripping from his forehead. He and his companions happily played the suona again, inviting the snake god to parade through the streets.
The sound of the suona gradually faded away, and everything seemed to have returned to calm. The familiar fear made Feng Yusu feel at ease.
But suddenly, a loud noise broke the hard-earned peace.
There was a loud bang, the sound of something breaking, which frightened Feng Yuxu so much that she shuddered all over and fell to the ground. She barely supported her body and got up from the ground. She raised her head and saw that the team carrying the snake god had stopped again for some reason.
Are they unlucky again? Feng Yushu thought subconsciously.
This time, before she could dispel the thought, the thought itself was denied, because this time it was not just the servant who was unlucky.
On the street, bright red blood splattered everywhere. A tall statue fell to the ground, crushing four servants who were holding up the four corners of the base. The huge weight directly broke the abdominal cavities of the people, and the pink and white intestines burst out, forming a sticky puddle on the ground.
Looking at the side, the snake god statue lying on the ground was also broken into pieces.
Looking at the shattered wooden sculpture of the snake god, an irrepressible shock surged into Feng Yusu's heart.
"The Snake God is also having bad luck..."
Is the snake god also taboo?
Thinking of this, Feng Yushu lowered her head and bit her white wrist. The severe pain dispelled her extra thoughts. She quickly curled up again and tried to follow Ning Zhe's instructions and not care about anything. Maybe it was because of luck that she buried her head in the sand at the right time. Feng Yushu, who was squatting on the ground with her hands hugged her knees, did not see the servants on the street who were crushed by the statue base and climbed up as if nothing had happened. The team that invited the gods picked up the broken snake god statue and placed it on the lotus platform at the base. The out-of-tune suona sounded again.
Carrying the body parts of the snake god, they continued to walk towards the He family mansion.
There were red flowers and blood all along the way as the team of gods-inviting people stumbled along the way. They still fell down frequently, and their skin and flesh were rubbed thinner and thinner by the sharp edges of the stone slabs. Sometimes they could not avoid the obstacles in time, and a servant was hit by a plaque that fell from the street.
The heavy plaque cut his neck in half, and the round head dragged blood vessels and lymphatic tissue and rolled to the corner of the wall, but the owner of the head was still walking forward, shaking his head and playing the suona, but this time he could not make any sound.
When the life-threatening suona sound finally faded away, Feng Yusu raised her head with trembling shoulders, her round oval face full of traces of dried tears.
"Is it over..." she thought cautiously.
After confirming that the strange team of summoning gods had really gone far away, Feng Yusu dared to relax her body a little and lean against the wall. With her empty mind, she thought of nothing and waited quietly for Ning Zhe to finish all this.
Feng Yusu raised her head and looked up at the clear blue sky.
But suddenly, a man's figure stood between her and the sky: "Madam, why don't you answer the phone?"
Feng Yusu fell to the ground with a scream, her limp body unable to exert any strength. She was very clear about the figure that appeared silently beside her.
"Zhang Yangxu..." Unspeakable fear crept up Feng Yusu's cheeks, soaking her heart in a sticky swamp. She was filled with resentment and struggle, unable to extricate herself.
Zhang Yangxu took a step forward, looking earnest: "Madam, I know you doubt me, so I don't expect you to believe me immediately. What I want to say is that Ning Zhe may have warned you about something, but what he said may not be completely correct."
"No, no, no... I won't listen to you, I won't listen to you, I will never believe you... I..." Feng Yusu's lips trembled. She shook her head and struggled to crawl out. Behind her, Zhang Yangxu was getting closer and closer.
He seemed very patient and not anxious at all, afraid of frightening her. Zhang Yangxu used a gentle expression and kept speaking sincerely: "I don't ask you to believe me, ma'am, I just want you to listen to what I say. You don't need to believe it, just listen, okay?"
"No...no...don't come over..." Feng Yusu's spirit was on the verge of collapse. Her eyes were dazed and her shoulders were shaking. "I will never believe you. I will never believe you..."
"You don't need to believe me, Madam. You just need to listen to what I say." Zhang Yangxu slowed down his voice and said, "This morning, when you and Ning Zhe were in the ancestral hall, you—"
Before he could finish his words, a series of clattering noises interrupted Zhang Yangxu's story. It was a few tiles that had slipped off the roof and fell, hitting Zhang Yangxu squarely on the head.
What was even more coincidental was that when the tile fell on his head, the sharp corner was facing downwards, like a spinning playing card inserted into a foam board. The sharp tile went straight into the back of Zhang Yangxu's unprotected head and pierced his brain stem.
he died.
Zhang Yangxu, who was hit to death by the tiles, fell in front of Feng Yusu, who was on the verge of collapse. However, he did not leave a body after his death. The vague human figure turned into wisps of illusory smoke, allowing Feng Yusu to recognize who it was very clearly.
"Ghost..." Feng Yushu's shoulders were still shaking, but the fear in his heart had been reduced by a large margin: "It was Ning Zhe, it must be him who did it. What method did Ning Zhe use to make the ghost suffer..."
Although Ning Zhe was not around, he was still interfering with the ghost's actions in some inexplicable way, and he was still protecting himself. This long-lost feeling of security gradually calmed Feng Yusu's mind, like a drowning person who had grabbed a life-saving straw.
The rules punish equally all beings who violate them, whether they are humans, ghosts or gods.
