Chapter 61 Solving the Puzzle

Chapter 61 Solving the Puzzle
A golden full moon climbed up into the sky as the night deepened.

Bai Zhi woke up from the sofa with a headache like a hangover. She raised her upper body and looked down. She was wearing an orange and black jumpsuit, which should belong to an employee of the gas station.

"Awake?" Ning Zhe walked in from outside, holding a bunch of browned grilled skewers, river shrimps, beef and the like.

Ning Zhe sat down on the sofa opposite Bai Zhi, tore off a piece of barbecued meat from the skewer and chewed it in big mouthfuls. These skewers were grilled by the gas station's owners and employees for themselves, and the amount of meat on the skewers was much more substantial than that in a barbecue restaurant.

"You'd better give me an explanation." Ning Zhe asked while eating, "With that level of acute poisoning, a normal person would have died long ago. Even if they were lucky enough to be rescued by an experienced doctor, their body would be left with permanent damage. But you are weird."

"You obviously didn't receive timely and professional treatment. You just took a nap on the sofa, and all the symptoms of poisoning disappeared. Not even a trace was left."

I had a premonition of the existence of ghosts, learned vague rules out of thin air, and... this thing that seemed to be immortal.

There are more and more strange things about Baizhi.

"If I could, I would really like to shoot you in the head and see if you can survive." Ning Zhe put the skewers he had eaten on the table and asked, "Tell me, what the hell are you?"

Don’t say again that I think I’m a ghost story player and I’m trying to fool ghosts.

"I...I don't know." Bai Zhi put her hands on her knees and shook her head nervously.

Ning Zhe frowned: "This look and tone... Damn, she's hiding."

"What are you talking about?" Bai Zhi looked at him in confusion.

"Nothing, I just didn't find the person I was looking for." Ning Zhe put a bunch of skewers on the table and stood up: "Come with me, I'll show you something."

Bai Zhi followed him out of the gas station without knowing what was going on. Several bodies were still lying on the platform in front of the door, and they had not been cleaned up. Ning Zhe took her through the green trees and around to the back of the gas station, where there was a small open-air courtyard with a homemade barbecue grill emitting thick white smoke.

There were two people tied to each of the two trees next to the yard.

One of them had his limbs hanging unnaturally, his joints seemed to be broken, and his clothes were covered in blood.

The other man had no signs of fighting on his body, only a slight bruise at the corner of his eye, and was also tied to a tree by Ning Zhe.

Ning Zhe pulled Bai Zhi to the gas station employee with broken limbs and put one of her wrists in front of the employee's bloody face.

"What are you doing?" Bai Zhi didn't dare to resist him and asked cautiously.

"Look for yourself." Ning Zhe said, and the employee's head, which had been drooping limply, suddenly lifted up, opened its mouth, and bit Bai Zhi's wrist desperately. Ning Zhe pulled his hand back before she was bitten.

The employee with broken limbs raised his head, gasping for breath, and made a voice that was almost pleading: "Brother, I beg you... Let me go, let me kill this girl, I really have to kill her... I, I must kill her, I must..."

"He wants to kill you."

Ning Zhe said calmly:

"Although he himself doesn't know the reason, he wants to kill you. He really, really wants to kill you. It's like eating when you're hungry and drinking water when you're thirsty. It's an instinctive reaction. He firmly believes that he must kill you no matter what."

"How could it be..." Bai Zhi's face was full of disbelief.

Ning Zhe then pulled her to another tree and used the same trick to move her wrist in front of another employee who was dressed relatively neatly.

But the employee did not try to bite Bai Zhi's wrist to make her bleed to death. Instead, he looked up at Ning Zhe: "Are you crazy? Murder is against the law. You actually killed the boss and Lao Liu... We are in a society ruled by law now. You can't run away... Boy, if you have the guts, kill me. You can't run away..." "See? We are both gas station employees, but he doesn't want to kill you." Ning Zhe put down Bai Zhi's hand and asked, "Do you know what the difference is between them?"

Bai Zhi shook her head: "I don't know."

She really didn't understand why someone would want to kill her for no reason? Moreover, the determination to kill her until she died was simply unbelievable.

"Because he had been staying in the gas station before." Ning Zhe said.

Ning Zhe brought Bai Zhi back to the gas station and briefly explained to her what happened last night.

——There are a total of 8 people in Sunshine Gas Station, including the boss and employees.

As it was getting close to evening, two of the eight people were guarding the front door to maintain normal business of the gas station.

Of the remaining six people, five including the boss were barbecuing outdoors in the yard, while one was cutting meat in the house.

"The only person who didn't want to kill you was the one cutting the meat in the house." Ning Zhe concluded: "During the time when the sun set, 'something' happened."

"Everyone who was exposed outdoors at the time was convinced that they had to kill you, almost instinctively. But I, who was hiding in the house, and the employee who was cutting meat in the house, were not affected by that. We didn't want to kill you."

Summarizing the current information, Ning Zhe initially came to the following conclusion:

Every evening, when the sun sets, the ghost will influence all people in the open air, making them believe from the bottom of their hearts and instinctively that they must kill Baizhi by any means.

This belief does not affect people's normal thinking. Everyone can still communicate normally, and everything about them is normal. The only thing is that they want to kill Bai Zhi no matter what.

God is everywhere, but not in the house.

"What is so special about you that makes the ghost want to kill you no matter what? He was so focused on killing you that he ignored me."

Ning Zhe was a little curious for a moment, why was it Bai Zhi and not himself? Apart from the identity of a ghost story player, what was the difference between him and Bai Zhi?
Okay, let’s start from the beginning…

1. This ghost, which "affects people exposed to the outdoors every day when the sun sets", is suspected to be driven by humans.
It was as if he was controlling the rules of Taiyi, or as if he was a special permit released into the manor artificially before.

2. The person who released the special person was suspected to be for Zhao You, but he seemed to only vaguely know the location of Zhao You, but could not accurately know who Zhao You was.
Otherwise, they would not have indiscriminately massacred everyone in the manor.

Finally, assuming that the person who drove the 'omnipresent' and 'invisible' ghost to hunt Bai Zhi was the same person who released Te Rang, then his motives would be obvious.

Bai Zhi and Feng Yuxu, both mother and daughter, were survivors of the Bishuiwan Manor incident, but Ning Zhe was not.

At least... not on the surface.

God knows with what identity he was sent home by Feng Yusu.

"Then, in this case, what Bai Zhi said yesterday makes sense. This ghost is not hunting her alone, but is killing all the survivors of the Bishuiwan Manor incident equally."

Because it couldn't determine who the summon was, it had to kill all the suspected people.

Ning Zhe felt that this conclusion might not be the truth, but it should be close enough.
