Chapter 87 Re-granting the Dharma
Chapter 87 Re-granting the Dharma
After leaving Pingdingshan, Cheng Xinzhan first returned to Meiji Mountain.
When he saw his master, he briefly told him about what happened in Qingzhou and also mentioned that the headmaster had suddenly asked him to stay for a talk.
Wen Sukong smiled and said, "He is the headmaster. Cultivating disciples and finding successors are naturally his top concerns. If you see a good seedling, you have to talk to him. In fact, Master Tongxuan has also told me about this. I didn't tell you before because I was afraid of affecting you."
She paused, and then continued, "You were able to find the source of the corruption of the earth veins during this mission, which means that you have read the part about finding a cave and looking for a corpse in the Qingxie Rebirth Sutra. Then, I want to ask you, have you read the part about raising, refining and controlling corpses? Can the insect corpse I gave you be resurrected?"
Cheng Xinzhan shook his head and said:
"Master, I've read some of the content, but I haven't gotten the hang of it yet. I've read in the scriptures that the method of nurturing corpses is mainly about nurturing vitality and the changes of life and death. From my understanding, nurturing vitality should correspond to the earth and water elements, while the changes of life and death should correspond to the wood element.
"I will open the Heart Palace first. After listening to Senior Jin Mingzi's words last night, I have some understanding of the Golden Immortal. I decided to visualize the golden corpse of the Qilin as the inner scene god, and then open the Lung Palace. After that, we will talk about the earth, water, and wood.
"After the five palaces are opened up, I will use the corpse of the Xinjin insect as the basis, nourish it with the nature of water and soil, awaken it with the nature of wood, and then temper it with thunder and fire. Only in this way can I refine the corpse and use it. I am not capable of doing that now."
After he finished speaking, Wen Sukong did not respond, but remained silent for a while.
Cheng Xinzhan felt a little nervous. Could it be that he had been slacking off in the corpse-raising technique and his master was a little angry?
"Hahaha--"
Unexpectedly, after a while I heard Master’s loud laughter.
"Okay, great, just make your own arrangements. You think more carefully than I do."
"Disciples don't dare."
He quickly bowed and shook his head.
"No."
Wen Sukong said seriously,
"An ancient sage once said: A disciple need not be inferior to his teacher, and a teacher need not be better than his disciple. There are differences in the order of learning the truth, and there are specializations in skills. Just because a teacher teaches you the scriptures does not mean that his attainments in the truth are necessarily better than yours.
"At best, haha, it means that you have practiced for a longer time and have a deeper magical power. I originally wanted you to use Yang Fire to nourish the golden corpse, so that you can refine it into a good corpse. Especially since you are contemplating the Pleiades, you are not afraid of the evil spirits invading your body. Then, you can experience the five elements and feel the changes of life and death while nourishing the corpse. However, you think you should learn the five elements first, and then use the nature of the five elements and thunder to nourish the corpse, which is naturally better.
"This is your first time as a disciple, and this is also my first time as a master. Sometimes I impose my own ideas on you without thinking. If there are similar things in the future, you should tell me in time. It won't be too late for us to discuss and decide. This is very good of you. I am very satisfied with you."
Cheng Xinzhan was also moved and inspired after hearing this, and bowed in greeting.
“How about this, I was originally worried that learning too much would affect your practice, but now it seems that you have your own plans, so I will teach you two more techniques, both of which are the true methods of Meiji Mountain.
"The first is the Wind Method. Since you have already learned the Thunder Method in addition to the Five Elements, you must not neglect the Wind Method. Now I will teach you the "Heavenly Gang Di Xun Human Spirit Manifestation God Scripture" and the "Summoning Wind and Transporting the Talisman Secret". The former characterizes the Wind Method, explaining the existence and function of wind in the natural universe and the human body, and the latter is the specific application of the Wind Method. However, if you want to understand the Wind Method, you must also learn the Wind Grass, just like you must learn the Thunder Seal before learning the Thunder Method. The three books "Zhang Tai Dian Tie", "Kuang Feng Ye Yu Tie" and "Meijishan Lidai Jie Zhang Tai Dian Tie" are given to you together, so study them carefully."
"The second is the method of the primordial spirit. The primordial spirit is a physical entity formed by the soul, thoughts, memories, ideas, and all other virtual forms of a person. When you achieve the primordial spirit, you should consider merging with the Tao and becoming an immortal. Previously, your master asked you to build a view in your mind. Did you miss it?"
Cheng Xinzhan shook his head. Now that the Guangming Palace was completed, he had been considering building the Lei Palace, and the thought never stopped in his mind.
"Well, that's good. This is the method of concentrating the mind. You should keep practicing it. Now I will teach you the method of controlling and strengthening the three souls and seven spirits. It is called "The Secret Instructions of the Longevity and the Taiyuan Manifestation of the Gods". You should also practice it.
"Practice Jing, Qi, and Shen at the same time. Don't leave any of them behind. If you don't understand, come and ask me."
Cheng Xinzhan took the gold and jade books handed to him by Wen Sukong, nodded, and then took out the lotus seed given by the head master and asked Wen Sukong what it was.
Wen Sukong took a look and said,
"This is the lotus seed of the Nine-Hole Dust-Free Lotus. The lotus root, stem, and stalk of the Nine-Hole Dust-Free Lotus all have nine holes. It grows out of the mud without being stained. It is hollow inside and straight outside. It stands tall and graceful without attracting dust. If it is raised in the Taoist temple, it can turn dirt into nutrients and purify the pool. It can also be regarded as a spiritual eye for setting up an array.
However, it is difficult to grow this thing until it blooms. It needs to be nourished with spiritual soil or spiritual water. But if it blooms, you can take out the whole lotus and refine it into a spiritual body. However, this kind of spiritual body can only be a place for the soul to live. It has poor agility and cannot restore the physical body. It is far inferior to your current bamboo body."
Cheng Xinzhan nodded, but this certainly cannot be said to be stingy. A spiritual plant that can transform into a spiritual body is already very precious, but it naturally cannot be compared with the bamboo stick that has been passed down from generation to generation in Meiji Mountain.
He thanked the master for teaching him the Dharma, then took his leave.
As soon as I returned to Wuyou Cave, Bai Long'er rushed up, pounced on me, and whined at me. After being away for a few days, I had neglected it.
Cheng Xinzhan glanced at the bowl on the ground. It contained some bread that he had taken from the kitchen courtyard to fill his stomach. He tore it into pieces and put them in the bowl, but it looked like it was barely touched. This dog didn't like rice or flour, so it seemed that it had been very hungry these past few days.
He comforted the dog for a while, then rode the cloud to Dongtian Road again.
Dongtiandao is located at the top of Dongping Mountain. The clouds and mist are curling around it. The road is extremely wide, no less than a hundred steps, so there are many pavilions and shops on both sides of the road, as well as small stalls set up on the spot. Some of them are shops of the sect, like the branch of Duchuyuan, the Danfang of Danxia Mountain, the mechanical puppets of Baihu Mountain, the green plants of Dujuan Valley, the Linggu of Ni Mountain, etc. Some are personal small shops of the disciples, who make some money while practicing.
He came here to see if there were any spiritual objects suitable for the dog to eat, as well as methods for the animals to eat air. He didn't have much gold and silver on him, but many of the herbs that Redwood Ridge had sent him before could be used in exchange.
He was strolling around casually when he suddenly spotted a shop in the distance with a sign called "Spirit Pet Food Shop".
There is actually such a shop?
He was very surprised and walked over immediately, only to find that there were a lot of people gathered here and they had to queue up. It seemed that many people in the sect kept spirit pets.
Cheng Xinzhan lined up and saw clearly that there was a line of small words under the "Spirit Pet Recipe Book", which read 'The secret method of preparing spiritual food originated from the Heluo Yanpin Sect'.
He was a little curious, so he asked the person in front of him. This person had white hair and unexpectedly had a pet. He said,
"Excuse me, sir, what kind of sect is this Yanpin Sect? I am so ignorant that I have never heard of it."
The person in front of him turned around and saw that he was a very old man.
"Master Yao!"
Cheng Xinzhan shouted loudly. It turned out to be Taoist Master Yao, who was on duty at the Xiaowanshan Duwuyuan. It was this Taoist Master Yao who was on duty when he first joined the sect. He suddenly remembered that Taoist Master Yao had a cat, which slept on the counter of the Duwuyuan every day.
Dao Master Yao was also surprised, and said with a smile, "It's Yunqi, no, it should be called Xinzhan now. Xinzhan is amazing, he opened the Xinfu in two years. The old Taoist said at that time that those who govern the mountain would not stay in Xiaowanshan for long."
Cheng Xinzhan even smiled and said, "Master Yao can call me whatever you want. Aren't Xinzhan and Yunqi both boys?" Master Yao smiled and said
"Xinzhan, since you're here to buy pet food, you haven't even heard of the Yanpin Sect?"
Cheng Xinzhan was embarrassed. "I got a spiritual pet when I was traveling outside. I really didn't pay attention to this aspect before. When I was traveling outside before, I just let it go to hunt rabbits and deer without taking care of it. This time I found it a little inconvenient when I came back to the sect."
Master Yao smiled and explained, "The Yanpin Sect is a major sect in the Heluo area. This sect does not practice magic, nor is it proficient in alchemy and equipment, but it is good at raising pets. There are cats, dogs, birds, fish, and thousands of other kinds. People who love pets can find their favorite pets there. Their sect has a rule that when you come to buy a spiritual pet, you can't say "buy", but "betroth". In addition to the gold and silver marked with the price, you must also bring an extra goose as a betrothal gift, so it is called the Yanpin Sect. Every year, they release wild geese on Yanqi Mountain in their sect, otherwise the geese all over the mountain will have nowhere to stay."
The young man gained new insights. He realized that there was such a sect and that there were so many people who loved pets in the cultivation world.
"The Yanpin Sect not only sells pets, but also pet food. You see, this stall owner learned the food-making skills of the Yanpin Sect by chance. That's different. My cat slave only eats her food now. She's very picky. In addition, the Yanpin Sect also does fur trimming, beauty care, etc. As long as it has something to do with spiritual pets, they can do anything you can think of. Their business is booming."
Seeing the young man's surprised look, the old Taoist laughed even more happily, "Haha, cultivation is a long journey, it's also good to raise a spiritual pet to accompany you, my raccoon is my Taoist companion."
Cheng Xinzhan also smiled and nodded, but he was a little confused.
"This stall owner has such a good business, where does he have the time to practice?"
The old Taoist priest replied, "This stall is only open on the ninth day of every month. You just happened to catch it. I heard that the stall owner found a few very good raccoon slaves this time. Everyone is lining up to see if they want to hire them. So there are a lot of talented people. I was late to get the news and came here just now."
"I see."
The two chatted and waited in line for a long time before he approached the stall. He saw some bags made of leaves on the stall. There were not many left, and he didn't know what they were. He asked Taoist Master Yao again, and the old man explained,
"That's a cold frost banana leaf. It stays as cold as ice for months after being picked, with frost on the leaf surface. Using it to hold pet food will ensure it won't spoil. You see, the craftsmanship of the people from the Yanpin Sect is very sophisticated."
Cheng Xinzhan nodded. There were words written on the frosted banana leaf. There were food for cats, dogs, birds, and snakes. There were about 20 to 30 left, big and small. He should be able to get one.
There were two kittens on one side of the stall. He saw that three or four people had already left with the kittens. It seemed that these two were the leftovers.
As the team walked a little further, another cat was taken away, and there were fewer pet food bags. Someone wanted to take a few more bags, and Master Yao in front of him shouted anxiously,
"You are the only one who has money, right? If you take too much, if my cat has nothing to eat, I will bring it to your house to eat!"
Everyone burst into laughter. Daoye Yao was in charge of Xiaowanshan Duwuyuan, and he knew all the newcomers in the sect in recent decades. The man clasped his fists and begged for mercy, then fled away like a flash.
Finally, it was Taoist Master Yao's turn. The old Taoist took a closer look at the last remaining kitten. He was surprised at first, then shook his head. Cheng Xinzhan asked why, and the old Taoist said,
"Look at this little cat, it has long hair and three spots, which is rare. But it looks like it's almost three or four months old, and the blue film hasn't melted yet. It's probably blind. I dare not hire it, I dare not hire it. Ji Han, bring me two bags of cat food, I want the one with straw in it."
Taoist Priest Yao handed over the silver.
The stall owner was a young woman wearing a floral dress. The background of the dress was green, but it was embroidered with flowers of various colors. It was very colorful, but the dress could not take away her charm, because her face was more beautiful than any flower. Her long black hair was braided into many small braids with delicate green vines with small flowers.
The woman was surrounded by many cats and a colorful parrot stood on her shoulder. When she heard the Taoist's words, she swiftly picked up two straw bags and handed them to the old Taoist, saying,
"Master Yao, don't you want to marry this three-color rooster? Its white fur is whiter than snow, its black fur is like ink, and its yellow fur is like mist, evenly distributed. Such colors are rare."
The old Taoist shook his head repeatedly, "Ji Han, don't scare me. This raccoon has a blue-white eye mask. He looks to be at least four months old, and it hasn't melted away yet. He will probably go blind. Moreover, I have been watching him for such a long time, and I have never heard him cry out. Even if he is not mute, he is weak."
The woman smiled mysteriously, "Master Yao, what you said is uncertain. Maybe everything will be fine after it is healed. Besides, this is the bloodline of Sanhua Suanni!"
Yao Daoye's eyebrows jumped when he heard this, and he touched it again, then whispered, "How much is the betrothal gift?"
The woman held up three fingers.
Master Yao immediately removed his hand from the kitten's back, picked up the two bags of cat food and left, also telling Xinzhan to visit Xiaowanshan from time to time.
Cheng Xinzhan agreed, and when it was finally his turn, he said,
"Thank you for your courtesy, Taoist friend. I have a dog that I brought back from Miaojiang. It's not even one year old yet, but it's already big. It's this tall."
He wrote down his strokes to his knees, "Please choose two bags of food for me."
The woman was a little surprised when she heard this. "How can a dog that's less than one year old be this big? It's from Miaojiang. Could it be Bai Long'er?"
Cheng Xinzhan was even more surprised when he heard this. He didn't expect the woman to guess it so easily, so he nodded.
"That's rare! It's rare to see Bai Long'er who isn't in Miaojiang. It's a good opportunity for you, fellow Daoist."
The woman said as she took two large straw bags from the stall and handed them to him, "Bai Long'er is greedy and likes to eat meat, so you can feed him this."
Cheng Xinzhan took it and asked, "How much is it?"
"Two bags of four taels. If it's barter, I'll only exchange herbs and pills. Daoist friends, you can take out the things. If you like anything, I'll pick out some that are suitable in price."
Two taels of silver for a bag was really not cheap, but fortunately he could still barter. He took out some herbs sent by Hongmu Ridge from the cave stone.
"This chicken blood vine will do!"
The woman pointed to a knot of red vine and said, "This is a good material for making wooden bracelets and hairpins."
"Then how do I change it?"
Cheng Xinzhan said.
"Four, how about that? Yours is old, but it's just the original plant, it hasn't been processed yet."
He nodded, handed over four plants, and was about to put the others away.
"Fellow Taoist, wait!"
The woman shouted, stopping him, and pointed to a green orchid with dirt wrapped around its roots, "Can you let me see this?"
