Chapter 144 Are you scared?
He Yang, who knew nothing about Ai Wanxin's taste in film selection, said approvingly, "Okay, sweetheart."
Pei Junlin and He Yang checked the front and back of the house, and Ai Wanxin and Yin Yanhan entered the house first.
The situation in the house was somewhat beyond her expectations.
The small building had obviously suffered a flood, and there were traces of water on the white walls, but the silt inside the house had been cleaned up, leaving only a thin layer of mud.
On the stairs leading to the second floor, several messy footprints can be clearly seen. I wonder if the owner has returned or if other survivors have stayed here.
Ai Wanxin went up to the second floor and saw a group of sofas in the large room in the middle. The place where the coffee table was originally placed was empty. There was a small burnt bonfire and an iron pot overturned on the ground. The spilled rice grains had already dried and hardened.
"It looks like the last wave of guests left in a hurry." Pei Junlin's voice came from behind her.
Ai Wanxin bent down, lifted the iron pot to the window, and with a flick of her hand, the iron pot flew out of the courtyard wall in a circle and landed on the ridge of the field with a dull bang.
He Yang, who was almost covered with dry rice grains spilled from the iron pot, flew directly from the window to the second floor with a tactical backpack.
He shook his head like a puppy shaking his fur, and a few grains of rice fell out of his stiff short hair.
He Yang smiled slightly and said, "Sweetheart, why don't I clean it up."
Before he could finish his words, a small tornado rose from the ashes of the bonfire, and like a sweeping robot, it swept all the remaining ashes and rice grains down the stairs.
A spacious living room was quickly cleaned up.
He Yang took things out of his backpack and said, "Who of you go pick up some firewood? And, you, get some water." He took out a hanging pot and shook it at Pei Junlin.
Pei Junlin took the hanging pot, and in a few moments, a layer of white frost condensed on the brass outer wall of the hanging pot, and the pot was filled with a bucket of snow.
He Yang took out a bag of rice, several boxes of canned tuna, a bag of compressed frozen dried vegetables, and a packet of compressed tomato egg drop soup powder from his backpack.
"Meat, eggs, vegetables, and carbohydrates. What a nutritious meal." He Yang looked up at Ai Wanxin with a smile seeking praise.
Ai Wanxin's face wrinkled slightly. She didn't dare to think about how unpalatable these things would be if they were cooked into one pot.
She pointed to the small bedroom next to her and said, "Captain He, why do I seem to see a box of instant noodles?"
He Yang stood up, went into the bedroom, and soon came out carrying a box of beef noodles.
He cast a slightly inquiring gaze on Ai Wanxin's face: "It really is."
"How lucky." Pei Junlin raised his hand to take the instant noodles. "Although the instant noodles are just so-so, they are definitely better than your tuna, tomato and egg risotto."
The night was dark, and in the endless wilderness, only the warm light of fire shone through the windows on the second floor of the small building.
A faint aroma of instant noodles wafted from upstairs.
Foods that were common before the end of the world have now become rare delicacies.
Of course, this was for Ai Wanxin in her previous life. She had never had the chance to eat instant noodles in this life.
After a simple dinner, Ai Wanxin pulled out a movie from her mobile phone and projected it onto the white wall opposite the sofa.
He Yang hadn't realized the seriousness of the situation yet. He said worriedly, "Sweetheart, you've used up all the electricity now. How are you going to shoot the video footage later?"
Ai Wanxin happily leaned back on the sofa, her eyes fixed on the opposite wall, and said nonchalantly, "It's not a big problem. Look, the protagonist is here, Captain He."
A scream came out of nowhere. He Yang turned his head and saw a huge, withered, gray, and bleeding ghost face. It suddenly enlarged as if it was about to jump out of the wall and occupied the entire wall.
He Yang closed his eyes, calmed his heartbeat, looked at Yin Yanhan who was leaning against the sofa with his arms folded but resting his eyes, and then looked at Pei Junlin who was holding Ai Wanxin's arms and burying his head in her neck, and smiled dryly, "Two cowards, what's so scary about this."
Pei Junlin said in a muffled voice: "You are not afraid, why don't you put your hands down?"
He Yang got angry and said, "My head feels heavy, what's wrong with helping me hold it up?"
He looked at Ai Wanxin, who was watching intently and with great interest, and asked softly, "Sweetheart, why did you think of watching this?"
Ai Wanxin's eyes flickered with two small flames: "Don't you think that watching a horror movie in the wilderness is more atmospheric?"
He Yang shielded his eyes closer to the wall: "This is too atmospheric..."
Even the small buildings inside look similar.
Ai Wanxin pulled her eyes away from the wonderful movie and said belatedly, "Are you scared? It's okay, just go to sleep. I'll keep watch. I'll turn off the sound."
Then she turned off the volume.
The bonfire gradually died down, and in the silent room, ghostly shadows appeared and disappeared mysteriously on the white walls.
He Yang thought with tears in his eyes, you might as well turn up the volume.
The night grew quieter. Yin Yanhan and He Yang leaned on the sofa respectively. Pei Junlin leaned on Ai Wanxin's shoulder, his warm breath gently falling on her collarbone. They both seemed to have fallen asleep.
After watching a movie, Ai Wanxin moved Pei Junlin's head from her shoulder to the back of the sofa and touched his soft and smooth golden hair.
Just as I was about to stand up and stretch my body, I caught a glimpse of a white mist quietly covering the side window, as if someone was breathing outside the window.
Ai Wan's heart sank slightly. This was the second floor, and there were four sentries in one room, but no one heard any unusual noises. This was unusual.
Without disturbing anyone else, she walked slowly to the half-open window and reflected the smoldering bonfire on the mud-spotted glass.
Ai Wanxin suddenly opened the window, and the howling north wind blew up her coat.
She glanced around with her sharp eyes, but could only see the thick darkness outside the window.
Ai Wanxin looked up at the sky. There were no stars or moon in the black velvet night sky. At that moment, the sky was high and the earth was far away. A huge feeling of emptiness and loneliness came over her, as if she was the only living thing in the world.
Ai Wanxin snapped her left fingers, and the flames that ignited at her fingertips dispelled the strange feeling. She confirmed that there was no one outside and was about to close the window when a yellow, short-haired, wrinkled face hung upside down from the eaves and almost had a close contact with her.
Ai Wanxin subconsciously threw out a fireball, and the creature dodged with a squeak. Its pair of embroidered wings with a wingspan of half a meter spread out, and it turned around and flapped its wings away.
However, it disappeared into the thick darkness in a few breaths, but it was enough for Ai Wanxin to see clearly that it was a rather large bat.
Maybe she was too engrossed in watching the movie so she didn't hear it, or maybe it was originally perched on the eaves, and since it had no intention of attacking her, Ai Wanxin was too lazy to chase it late at night.
She closed the window and turned around, only to find that the sofa in the living room was empty. The three people who had been sleeping there were all gone.
