Chapter 156: Changes Caused by the Devil Fruit
Zefa did not take his men to stay at the naval base, but found a hotel in the small town. Their funds were still sufficient, and the navy spared no effort in training elites, and the instructors were all former admirals.
Accommodation has been arranged for everyone, two people in a room, Vic and Barnett live together, Rebecca and Wendy live in one room. The hotel owner was grinning from ear to ear, it was rare to have so many guests coming at once.
"Vic, I want to go out for a walk, please come with me!" Rebecca called out coquettishly in front of Vic's room.
"Okay, I'll be there right away." Vic was talking to Barnett about fruit development in the room.
Vic and Rebecca were walking side by side on the street. There were only the two of them. Wendy did not follow them. It was not very late yet. It was just getting dark. The street was still quite busy, with lights of various colors scattered on both sides of the street.
"Vic, if you really want to...I can do it!"
A mosquito-like sound came from the side. If Vic's five senses were not super sharp, he would not have heard it. Ever since he saw the eye-catching scene in Shift last time, Vic basically doesn't use his Observation Haki after dark in the small town. It's too embarrassing.
Vic turned his head and looked at Rebecca. Rebecca lowered her head and her long hair covered most of her face, but Vic still saw her exposed red cheeks.
Vic slowly moved towards Rebecca, and Rebecca also felt Vic slowly bending down and getting closer to her. She was very nervous, but also looking forward to what would happen.
"Snapped"
"What are you thinking about? Your little brain is not thinking about serious matters. Did Wendy say something to you again?"
After Vic confirmed that Rebecca was indeed blushing, he slapped Rebecca on the back of her head, catching her off guard and causing her to stagger.
Wendy is the same age as Vic, but she knows a lot. No one knows where she learned it from, but she always teaches Rebecca some strange knowledge.
"Ah! Vic, you hit my head again, I'm going to bite you to death!" The ambiguous atmosphere was ruthlessly broken by a slap. Rebecca was now extremely ashamed and angry, her face flushed with shame, and she could only throw a tantrum to divert the two men's attention.
Vic pressed his hand on Rebecca's head. Compared to Rebecca, Vic had longer arms and legs. Rebecca was pressed on the head and could not get close to Vic at all. She could only paddle in place.
Vic felt a little helpless. He didn't expect Rebecca called him out to talk about this. She was still a sixteen-year-old girl. How could he be so perverted?
After all, he was a good young man who received nine years of compulsory education. If nine years were not enough, he continued to study for another seven years, which should have been able to suppress his desire to become a pervert.
"Stop, kid, you thief, someone come and catch that kid!"
Just then, a loud shout was heard from the street, followed by the sound of a group of people running.
"what!"
At this moment, a scream of pain came from Rebecca's feet. Rebecca felt that her calf was hit by something. She stopped playing and looked at her feet. A child fell at her feet, his body still shaking.
Vic also looked at the child on the ground. The child was struggling to stuff something into his mouth. He was trembling while eating, as if he was choking.
Vic's eyes fell on the last small piece he put into his mouth. Vic's eyes focused. That strange pattern?
"I didn't expect that the child ate a devil fruit. Was it eaten completely?" The moment Vic saw the strange pattern, he knew what the child had eaten, the secret treasure of the sea, the devil fruit.
The child was tripped by Rebecca's playfulness, and the group of pursuers took the opportunity to come closer. The child climbed up after eating the devil fruit, with tears in his eyes, hiding behind Rebecca, looking at the group of pursuers with fear.
Victor also came back to his senses from his thoughts about the devil fruit. He turned to look at the group of tall and strong pursuers.
There were quite a lot of people, more than a dozen of them. So many people chasing after a child, they really looked down upon the child. However, he felt relieved when he thought that the child had eaten a devil fruit. The devil fruit was indeed worthy of such attention.
"You two, get out of the way! We are going to catch that thief and punish him!" the leading burly man shouted. He was shirtless, tall, muscular, and had a gun on his waist. It was obvious that he was not a good guy.
Rebecca felt bad for tripping the child, so she squatted down to brush the dust off the child's body, comforting him as she did so.
The child's face was dirty, and although there was fear and tears in his eyes, he did not cry. He just kept looking at the group of people chasing him, his body shaking constantly.
"What did the kid steal from you? What valuable things could a kid steal? You name a price and I'll pay for him." Vic said calmly.
The child was wearing tattered clothes and had many scars on his body. He was probably an orphan. He was just hungry and accidentally ate an unfamiliar fruit.
"Are you going to stand up for that thief? He is the thief who stole our things!" When the leading man heard what Vic said, he emphasized that the child was a thief, and then looked Vic and Rebecca up and down.
"You can tell from the look of this kid that he's an orphan. He can't possibly have anything valuable on him. It's useless for you to catch him. It's better for me to pay for your losses."
Vic could see that these people didn't seem to know that the child had eaten a devil fruit. Their expressions were relaxed, and they didn't seem to be eager to get back what had been eaten.
"This little guy stole fruits from our fruit stall. I don't know how much he cost. You should ask the owner of our fruit shop. Since you want to pay, then come with us. You can discuss the price with our boss!" The leading man had an inexplicable look in his eyes and a smile on his lips.
Vic had already noticed something was wrong. It was just an ordinary fruit to them, so there was no need to ask the boss in person.
How expensive can your fruit be? Most people would just ask for a higher price, but these people asked them to negotiate with the boss.
Vic immediately released his Observation Haki. He sensed the evil aura emanating from this group of people. Although he couldn't sense it without Observation Haki, it also showed that this group of people were definitely not good people. Vic decided to follow them to see what tricks they were playing.
"Well, you guys lead the way." Vic said calmly, without any emotion change.
Hearing Vic say this, the group of people suddenly burst into laughter. A few of them came behind Vic and the others, as if they were afraid that they would run away. The big man in the lead turned around and led the way.
