Why is the question why we study?

What are these scholars doing with nothing to do pondering this problem all day long?

Okay, okay!

You really have to let me use my ultimate move, right?

……

PS: What I said in the last chapter did not mean that the book was going to be finished, but because I am a new author and was afraid that everyone would not believe it, so I only finished it with 800,000 words.

Chapter 184: After the four sentences of Hengqu, in public, he helped his wife cover her hands

Chapter 184: After the four sentences of Hengqu. In public, he helped his wife cover her hands

Su Changan was so helpless.

Although I understand the question of "why study", it is actually very important for readers.

But this matter varies from person to person. After all, everyone's environment, family background, and all aspects of life are different.

So 'why study' becomes not a fixed answer.

But looking at Su Changan's current attitude, it was clear that he wanted a fixed answer, so...

Then give one.

After Yan Shu paid his respects, Xia Fengxiang looked at him with great interest, because Mu Xu, Xun Kuang, Su Wenqing and others had often mentioned this humble student named Yan Shu in front of her.

Yan Shu bowed with both hands and looked at Su Changan: "Empress, at the previous literary gathering, Your Majesty asked 'Why do you study?' I couldn't figure it out, so I didn't answer. After thinking about it for a long time, I still didn't know why I study. Your Majesty answered Mr. Wen's question at the Mid-Autumn Palace Banquet, and I still remember it in my heart, but I still have some doubts, so I ask again today."

At this point, Yan Shu bowed and said, "I am a dull and stupid student, so please forgive me, Your Majesty."

At first glance, Yan Shu did not have the upright bearing of Wei Anming, nor the reckless integrity of Li Ziyu. He was also inferior to Zuo Shaoweng in elegance and Li Wei in spirit.

but.

Yan Shu gives people a very gentle and friendly feeling, like a spring breeze blowing across the leaves, comfortable and long-lasting.

After everyone looked at Yan Shu, they all looked at Su Changan.

Su Changan looked at Yan Shu and said with a smile: "Do you know about faith?"

Yan Shu nodded: "Student knows."

Su Changan smiled and said, "If you regard reading as a belief, how do you think you should say it?"

Yan Shu was stunned.

All the officials and teachers present were stunned.

View reading as a religion?

Everyone present looked at Su Changan.

Everyone present knew what faith was, especially those scholars who firmly believed in Taoism.

But treating reading as a belief sounds a bit forced.

After all, reading is a practical action, but it is also a belief and a kind of reverence and worship for the truth.

Or maybe the Queen meant to regard reading as a spiritual concept and thus as the highest concept.

But isn’t this a bit extreme?

Some of the teachers present looked at Su Changan in confusion, because this kind of concept does exist in the school of thought, but it is not very popular because it is extreme. To put it bluntly, it is just going off the deep end, and the road will only become narrower and narrower. What's more, studying is a big road, so how can you take a small road?

A Confucian scholar came out at this time, bowed and said, "Your Majesty, reading should not be regarded as a belief. If it is regarded as a belief, reading will become corrupted."

Su Changan remembered that this gentleman was a scholar from Jiaozhou and was quite knowledgeable. He said, "Sir, you misunderstood what I meant. Please listen to me."

This gentleman was not an unreasonable person, he was just a little impatient, so he stood up. Upon hearing what was said, he immediately bowed and apologized, and then looked at Su Changan for an answer.

At this time, Yan Shu also said: "I don't know how to express myself."

Su Changan took Xia Fengxiang's hand out of his arms.

However, this action was not covered by clothes, so it was naturally seen by many people.

Everyone was surprised.

Why is your Majesty's hand on the queen's belly?

Are these two nobles so good at playing? !

Or.

Your Majesty is actually feeling uncomfortable in her abdomen, so Your Majesty is helping her massage it gently?

Yes, the queen herself is ill, and the pastoral priest also said before that he was not sure whether the queen could come tonight.

Thinking of this, everyone saw that the empress had a slightly frown on her face, as if she was worried, and then they looked at Su Changan, who was even more moved.

If you are close to the people once or twice, people won’t mind.

But the Queen is always so easy-going and gentle to others!

but.

In fact, Xia Fengxiang was embarrassed when he saw Su Changan shamelessly taking his hand out in front of everyone, so he glared at Su Changan.

but

Su Changan ignored Xia Fengxiang. Everyone knew that they were a young couple, so what was wrong with them doing such a thing? It would be fine even if they kissed in public.

So Su Changan stood up and looked at everyone below and said, "In Buddhism, 'the Buddha said that we should save all living beings', so many believers take it as their responsibility to do good and act with kindness as their priority. 'The Buddha said that all living beings are equal', so believers look at everything in the world with an equal eye. This is their belief."

"Taoism advocates personal inner cultivation and spiritual peace, which is the way of nature and the universe, and advocates 'ruling by doing nothing'. Therefore, Taoists regard it as a belief and often require themselves to be quiet, tolerant, and natural. Therefore, they treat people and things in a friendly way."

"Although scholars do not have fixed ideas, the sages once said, 'Aim at the Tao, live in virtue, rely on benevolence, and enjoy art.' Therefore, scholars pay attention to treating others with courtesy. This can actually be understood as the belief of scholars like us to cultivate ourselves."

"Moreover, the Book of History says, 'The human heart is dangerous, the heart of Tao is subtle, only by being precise and focused can one hold the center.' This is the 16-character heart-to-heart message for scholars like me to stay firm in our goals. I think this is also a belief."

When Su Changan said this, Li Wei stood up, bowed and asked, "Your Majesty, what you mean is that scholars like me already have faith, the only difference is how to understand it and how to put it into practice?"

Su Changan smiled and said, "The word faith is so big that it encompasses everything in the world, and so big that our thoughts are not enough to contain it. But it is also very small, so small that we think that an ordinary little thing is enough to do it unswervingly. It depends on how you say it and how you understand it."

"The reason why I asked this question is that the question of why scholars study can be a big or small issue. In fact, you all know very well why you study to take the imperial examinations, but if you really want to ask why scholars study, I think it should be "to establish a mind for heaven and earth, to establish a destiny for the people, to inherit the lost knowledge of the past sages, and to create peace for all generations."

Su Changan smiled awkwardly and added: "This is a bit exaggerated, and a bit scary. So please don't laugh at me, teachers and students. After all, I am just a lucky person. I can't lecture or teach. But I think these four sentences should be said."

Quiet~~~

After listening to what Su Changan said, everyone fell into deep thought.

Including Mu Xu, Yang Shanchang and others.

But everyone looked at Su Changan with disbelief.

Just because of Su Changan’s four sentences!

These four ordinary sentences uttered by Su Changan were very powerful!

Even much bigger than 'Studying for Daxia'!

But its meaning is so simple, profound, and thought-provoking.

But these four ordinary sentences were heard by everyone for the first time, and they were like thunder in their ears and enlightening.

I just feel that Su Changan can actually say these four sentences, she really deserves to be the mother of Daxia!

At this moment.

A teacher stood up and looked at Su Changan: "Madam, these four sentences are shocking, but I think they are a bit too exaggerated."

Old Master Zhao Shi stood up and said, "No, no, if one person is not enough, what about ten people? What about a hundred people? What about tens of millions of people? There are so many scholars in Daxia. I have been thinking about the matter of 'faith' that Your Majesty just mentioned for a long time and was moved. It was not until Your Majesty said these four sentences that will surely be passed down through the ages that I realized why Your Majesty talked about faith first."

"Scholars have no faith, but if we investigate, just as the queen said, the words and principles left by the saints are all the faith of us scholars. The four sentences the queen said today, every word is considered, why not be the world that we scholars think of in our hearts. If all the scholars in my Great Xia take this as their goal, how prosperous my Great Xia will be!"

Master Zhu shook his head and stood up and said, "Your Majesty's four sentences are exaggerated, but they can be passed down through the ages because they can be 'beliefs' and can be pursued by scholars all over the world. In Buddhism, Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva is as immovable as the earth and his meditation is as profound as a secret treasure. He once said, 'If hell is not empty, there will be no Buddha.' This is a great saying, but it also proves the concept of 'Buddha said to save all living beings.'"

When Master Zhu said this, another master stood up and said, "I admire the lofty mountains and the beautiful people. Although I cannot reach them, my heart aspires to them."

……

At this time, all the teachers stood up and started discussing.

The old scholars were particular about etiquette, but when it came to academic matters, especially these four inspiring, thought-provoking and lingering words, these gentlemen who had spent their entire lives studying and discussing academic matters would forget the present and start discussing.

but

This is what gentlemen do.

The students outside, however, savored these words carefully.

I just feel my blood boiling and my sense of righteousness filling me!

As scholars, who among us does not have lofty ambitions when we study? We study for the heaven and earth, for the people, for the past sages, and for all eternity.

Of course, some students know that these four sentences are very important, as Su Changan said, they are scary, but.

That’s the goal!

This is what these passionate scholars, who have a sense of patriotism and dream of serving the country and bringing prosperity, think about all the time!

Bigger!?

Great!

But not big!

Because, that’s why we study, just to do these things!

Therefore, although the students listened to the teachers' discussion, their eyes were on Su Changan, who was standing at the front of the lecture hall.

In the eyes of many people, admiration and respect are deeper.

There were also students whose hearts were filled with emotion as they thought about these four lines of poetry, and they bowed deeply to Su Changan.

Many of them looked at Su Changan, their eyes full of admiration, enthusiasm and eagerness.

Su Changan watched the discussion among the teachers and gentlemen below, and of course some officials had also joined in.
