Chapter 372: Bone Island
The water droplets on the top of the cave suddenly became dense. Su Han looked up and saw countless black shadows shuttling between the stalactites on the top of the cave.
Those dark shadows looked like bats, but they had compound eyes larger than human palms, glowing a faint green light in the darkness.
The one in the front suddenly swooped down, and its sharp claws brushed past Su Han's ear, bringing up a strand of severed hair.
"Don't use torches!"
Biyao suddenly threw the torch far away, and her dark green compound eyes instantly shrank into needle tips in the firelight.
It turns out that these creatures are afraid of fire, but strong light will anger them.
Su Han immediately pulled out the fire starter from his waist, leaving only the faintest spark. With this little light, he saw the protruding rock ridges on the cave wall - they were natural climbing fulcrums.
“Climb up!”
Su Han grabbed Bi Yao's wrist, and they both used their hands and feet to climb up the rock wall.
The group of monsters below let out shrill screams, and the air currents created by countless wings almost blew them off.
Biyao's knee hit the rock edge hard, blood flowed down her calf, but she gritted her teeth and continued to move forward, with gravel embedded in the cracks between her nails.
When they finally climbed onto a protruding ledge, the group of monsters below stopped attacking.
Su Han gripped his weapon vigilantly, only to find that these creatures were surrounding the remains of torches on the ground, poking at the burning firewood with their sharp claws.
What's even more strange is that they began to imitate the crackling sound of burning flames. The sound became more and more similar, and finally it was as if there was a real sea of fire spreading in the cave.
“They’re learning.”
Biyao's voice was trembling.
Before he could finish his words, a monster suddenly threw a burning piece of wood at the rock wall. The dry moss was instantly ignited, and the flames climbed up along the vines.
Su Han's pupils shrank suddenly. These monsters not only knew how to use tools, but also knew how to make use of the environment. He quickly looked around and found a narrow crack on the other side of the rock platform, which was barely enough for one person to pass through.
“Go from there!”
As soon as the two men entered the crevice, they heard a loud noise of a monster hitting the rock wall behind them.
It was damp and cold in the crevice, and Su Han's shoulders kept rubbing against the rock wall, leaving bloody marks.
After walking about twenty meters, the view ahead suddenly opened up and a huge underground lake appeared before our eyes.
The lake was glowing with a faint blue light, and in the center of the lake floated an "island" made of bones. The bones were stacked layer upon layer, and at the top was a human skull with a half-broken torch stuck in its eye socket.
Biyao's torch suddenly made a "pop" sound, and sparks splashed into the lake, causing ripples.
Su Han suddenly grabbed her arm: "Don't move!"
I saw dense bubbles appearing on the surface of the lake, and countless slender tentacles protruding from the bottom of the lake, with suction cup-shaped mouthparts on the top of the tentacles, greedily sucking the flames in the air.
The cries of the monsters came from the other side of the crevice, getting closer and closer.
Su Han looked at the human skulls on the bone "island". Before he had time to think about it, the lake water suddenly surged violently.
A creature three times the size of the previous monster broke through the water.
Its skin was covered with wrinkles, and glowing spores were embedded in every line. Hundreds of small monsters poured out of its open mouth like a tide.
Su Han's back was pressed against the stone wall, and the damp moss became slippery under the cold sweat.
The fishy wind from the giant creature's mouth was filled with spore powder, and Bi Yao was choked and coughed violently, but her fingertips were tightly grasping the cloth belt around Su Han's waist.
Those glowing spores fell on the lake, and the dark blue water instantly boiled. The slender tentacles twisted wildly like a group of snakes, strangling them in the direction where they were. (End of this chapter)
