Chapter 522: Hatching Bird Eggs

In the blink of an eye, more than four months have passed and it is almost five months. We have entered winter and the weather has turned cold. In a little over a month, it will be the snow season.

Although they were kept warm by the feathers of bald eagle and fish eagle, Lido was very worried that the two bird eggs would not be able to survive the drop in temperature and become dead. She was even more worried that they would not hatch when the snow season came.

You have to know that even though it is winter, the climate before and after the snow season are completely two different climates with a huge temperature difference. Otherwise, how could there be a separate snow season besides winter?

Once the snow season begins and the two eggs have not hatched, there is a high probability that they will not have a chance to hatch.

In fact, even if they hatched before the snow season, Lido was worried that the hatched chicks would not be able to survive the long and cold snow season.

However, the luck of the two bird eggs was not too bad. They seemed not to be affected by the temperature changes and finally hatched about a month before the snow season.

That day, on her way back to the meteorite crater from Qingyan City, Liduo stopped by the Huashi River to catch an ice thorn fish to satisfy her appetite.

It's really just a desire for food. Now, for a primary magical beast like the Icethorn Fish, the meat is of little use to Lido, but the delicious taste cannot be missed.

Then when we returned to the meteorite crater, we discovered that there was something subtle and unusual in the air. Upon careful investigation, we found that one of the eggs buried in the feathers had moved. There was a small cut and a crack on it, and the other egg was also shaking gently.

Lido didn't bother to deal with the ice stickleback and concentrated on waiting for the baby birds to hatch.

To be honest, these two eggs are not small in size. Each one is at least as big as two ostrich eggs, so the hatched chicks should be quite large.

There were intermittent pecking sounds coming from the first egg, and the hole gradually expanded, and then the crack gradually became larger, as if the young bird was kicking and pushing its head in the eggshell, trying every means to break free from the eggshell.

Finally, with a slight "click", the eggshell cracked into two halves, and a little head popped out of it.

So ugly!

What appeared in front of Lido was a baby bird about the size of two adult fists, bald except for a few fetal hairs on its head, with red and purple body, eyes that were not yet open and covered with mucus. Along with it came a strange fishy smell that made Lido's face turn green.

Obviously this is a late-maturing bird. It relies on the careful feeding and protection of its parents just after birth in order to grow wings and have a certain survival ability.

Fortunately, this is not an ordinary baby bird. It has the energy and pressure of a primary magical beast right after birth. Therefore, even if it is a late-maturing bird, it is not like an ordinary late-maturing baby bird that can only move a few trembling steps. It appears to be much more energetic.

The young bird must have expended a lot of energy when breaking out of the shell, so it rested for a long time before recovering, and then opened its mouth as if waiting for its parents to feed it.

But unfortunately, it was an orphan bird, so it opened its mouth for a long time but was not fed. The young bird made a low cry that seemed to be urging it, but still did not get what it wanted.

And Lido didn't know what to feed it for a moment, so she thought about waiting and ignored it for the time being. She saw the young bird groping to suck the egg liquid remaining at the bottom of the eggshell. After sucking the egg liquid, it began to peck at the eggshell with a "crunch-crunch" sound.

Wow! Such a strong desire to survive! Well, although the bird's puffs and claws are young, they are still quite powerful.

After eating the eggs, the young bird rolled in its feathers, probably trying to rub off the mucus on its body. Then its body was covered with tiny feathers, making it look even uglier!

Lido couldn't bear it any longer, so she found a piece of cloth to wipe the baby bird clean, then took out the feathers that were wet with mucus and threw them away. She dug a hole in the feathers to make a nest, and then put the baby bird into the dry nest.

While Lido was doing all this, the young bird cried very frightened at first, but after Lido wiped the mucus off its body and put it back into the nest, it seemed to be at ease. Its cries became much slower and lower, like a coquettish murmur. It also gently touched Lido's fingers with its bird's puff, and then fell asleep.

Perhaps awakened by her brother's cry, the other egg began to move louder. Lido continued to stare at the cracking of this egg.

The process of this egg hatching was basically the same as the previous one. The only difference was that when the baby bird came out, its claws were facing upwards, and it seemed that it had kicked the eggshell in two.

Then the same process happened again. The young bird ate its own egg liquid and eggshell, and then, with the help of Lido, slept in the same feather nest with its brother.

The two chicks are similar in size and appearance, but the first chick has a golden beak while the other has a black beak, making them very easy to distinguish.

Of course, there is still a hint of the yellowish color unique to young birds around their beaks, which does not show the deterrent power of primary magical beasts.

But looking at these two sleeping young birds, Liduo was a little confused. How should she feed them? How should she ensure that they can safely survive the cold snowy season?

After thinking about it, I thought they should be carnivores and they are already primary magical beasts, so I should prepare some meat for them.

Liduo thought about the big piece of marbled beef she bought from Qingyan City and the ice thorn fish she caught on the road. They should be edible, right?

But just in case, Lido went to the Huashi River and caught a common carp to see what kind of meat the young birds could eat.

Lido quickly processed the carp and ice stickleback, then cut a piece from the carp and marbled beef into very thin strips of meat respectively, and prepared the fish liver cut into strips for the ice stickleback. Lido remembered that carnivores prefer the internal organs of their prey, especially the liver.

After Lido had prepared all this, the two baby birds woke up and began to chirp softly with their mouths open. I guess they were hungry.

Lido pinched two pieces of carp meat and placed them on the beaks of the two baby birds. As if smelling the food, the baby birds pecked at the meat fiercely, tilted their necks back and swallowed the meat.

Wow, it can snatch food soon after birth. You don’t have to feed it into its mouth. It’s pretty amazing.

After feeding the bird a piece of meat, Lido waited for a while to see if there would be any problems with the young bird. The conclusion was that the young bird was fine, and kept its mouth open, urging Lido to continue feeding it the meat.

So Lido pinched two pieces of carp meat again and fed them to the young bird. The young bird had a big appetite. After eating two pieces of meat, it kept opening its mouth wide and continued to urge Lido.

The third time, Liduo didn't pick carp meat, but two pieces of marbled beef. Wow! As soon as the marbled beef strips were placed in front of the young birds, they pecked at them even faster. Apparently, they also knew that marbled beef was better than carp meat, and they were more willing to eat energy-rich food.

After eating the marbled beef strips, Lido waited for a while and saw that the two baby birds were still very active and looked hungry, so she pinched two ice spines livers to feed them.

Well, this time they ate more ferociously, stretching their necks to grab the food before it even reached their mouths. However, after eating, the two baby birds did not ask for food again, apparently they were full.

I just don't know how much they need to eat to be full if they are only fed carp meat, marbled beef, or icefish offal?

Try it next time you feed your baby.
