Chapter 582 Making a Plan

Wang Jianguo paused, then secretly looked up at Secretary Dong's face. He saw that his brows were slightly furrowed, his eyes were full of concern, and he continued:

"This news was like a bolt from the blue for Yang Xiaohua. She was completely devastated and had a complete mental breakdown."

"She was wandering around the hospital corridor in a daze early this morning, and no one paid much attention to her. As a result, she got impulsive and ran directly to the rooftop."

"She cried so hard that she jumped down. Fortunately, she only had a broken bone and is not in danger of death. Zhao Shuzhuo is taking care of her in her ward now. He is here to comfort her and stay with her. Don't worry, she will be fine."

Secretary Dong listened quietly, his expression becoming more solemn as Wang Jianguo continued speaking. He nodded slightly, and after a moment of thought, he looked at Wang Jianguo again and asked earnestly:

"Jianguo, go find out what incurable disease this girl's father has and see if we can help. Now that we know about this, we can't just stand by and watch. We have to help as much as we can."

Wang Jianguo's heart skipped a beat. He had originally wanted to hide the fact that Yang Xiaohua's father needed a special medicine and secretly go to the black market to inquire about it.

This black market is a mixed bag with all kinds of people. He didn't want to let Secretary Dong worry about it, and he was even more afraid of causing trouble for Secretary Dong. After all, Secretary Dong's health had just improved, and there were still a lot of things waiting for him to deal with at the brick factory.

Moreover, the matter of this special medicine involved military channels, and he was not sure whether it could succeed, so he just wanted to explore the way on his own first.

Unexpectedly, Secretary Dong actually asked about it. Wang Jianguo's face flashed with helplessness, and he secretly sighed, knowing that he could not hide it anymore, so he had to bite the bullet and tell Secretary Dong the truth:

"Secretary Dong, this is what happened. Yang Xiaohua's father has sepsis. Currently, there is only one specific medicine that can control the condition. However, this medicine is very difficult to obtain. Only the military can get it, and it is very expensive."

"Brother Shuzhuo just wanted to help Comrade Yang Xiaohua. I originally wanted to go to the black market to see if I could get lucky and buy the medicine, but I didn't expect you to ask me about it now."

Wang Jianguo's voice became lower and lower, like a child who had done something wrong confessing.

Secretary Dong half leaned on the hospital bed, his fingers tapping subconsciously on the small table beside the bed, his eyes filled with deep thought.

He was a kind-hearted man who couldn't bear to see others suffer. Now, hearing about the miserable situation of Yang Xiaohua's family, his heart was even more turbulent.

After a long silence, Secretary Dong sat up straight, looked at Wang Jianguo firmly, and said:

"Jianguo, you know, as a human being, you need to have some compassion. We ran into this kind of thing with Yang Xiaohua, it was fate, but also responsibility."

"As the saying goes, saving a life is better than building a seven-story pagoda. Her father is in danger now. If we can help him, it will be a great merit."

"I've been in this world for many years. Although my connections are not all-powerful, I have made some acquaintances with people who can help me."

"If it's to save her father, using these connections is really no big deal."

"It's nothing more than owing some favors, but favors are something that I can repay slowly in the days ahead."

"We can't just watch a life die just because of a lack of medicine, right?"

Secretary Dong's voice was low and powerful, and every word seemed to carry his determination.

Wang Jianguo stood aside, listening quietly to Secretary Dong's words, his heart filled with emotion and admiration.

He knew that Secretary Dong really wanted to help, but he also understood the difficulties involved.

The risks of the black market and the depth of human relationships all made him act with caution. Wang Jianguo frowned slightly, shook his head gently, and said to Secretary Dong sincerely:

"Secretary Dong, Brother Shuzhuo and I understand your kindness and are grateful for it. But this matter really needs to be considered in the long run."

"Think about it, we can go to the black market to buy drugs. Although it is risky, at least money can solve part of the problem."

"If you use your connections, this favor will be a big one. Money is something that we can pay back if we grit our teeth and work hard."

"But it's hard to repay favors. Once you owe them, you never know when they will become a huge rock in your heart, weighing you down and making you feel suffocated."

"Besides, you have been working so hard for the brick factory recently, and your health has just improved. I really don't want to cause you any more trouble and make you owe a favor to others because of this matter."

"How about this, I'll go to the black market and ask around to see if I can find a way to buy the drugs. If there's really no other way, you can use your connections, okay?"

There was a hint of stubbornness in Wang Jianguo's eyes. He hoped that Secretary Dong could understand his painstaking efforts.

Secretary Dong listened to Wang Jianguo's words quietly, with a hint of approval in his eyes. He admired Wang Jianguo's steadiness and responsibility, and recognized his way of handling things with a general and meticulous approach.

After a moment of silence, Secretary Dong nodded slightly, a gratified smile appeared on his face, and said:

"Okay then. I'll listen to you. Jianguo, I trust you to do the job. But you have to be more careful."

"The black market is full of mixed people, so make sure nothing goes wrong. If you encounter any difficulties, feel free to come back to me and we can work out a solution together."

Wang Jianguo felt warm in his heart when he heard this, and nodded quickly in response:

"Secretary Dong, don't worry. I will be very careful. With your words, I feel more confident. I will go to the black market to get information and report back to you as soon as there is progress."

After saying this, Wang Jianguo turned around and walked quickly out of the ward, his back revealing determination and resoluteness.

Secretary Dong leaned on the hospital bed, looking at the direction he left, praying silently for him in his heart, hoping that he could successfully find an effective medicine, and also hoping that Yang Xiaohua's family could escape from suffering as soon as possible.

The atmosphere in the ward eased slightly because of the discussion about rescuing Yang Xiaohua's father.

But after a while, Secretary Dong seemed to suddenly remember something, frowned slightly, a hint of doubt flashed in his eyes, and asked again:

"Why is Shuzhuo so concerned about the girl's affairs? I think it's unusual."

As he spoke, he paused, raised his eyes and looked around carefully, as if trying to find some clues in the air of the ward.

Then, he looked straight at Wang Jianguo. Although he didn't finish his words, his meaning was obvious. He was hinting at whether Shu Zhuo had feelings for Yang Xiaohua.

Wang Jianguo stood aside, paying attention to the changes in Secretary Dong's expression. Seeing him like this, he knew everything in his mind. He couldn't help but raise the corners of his mouth slightly, revealing an expression that seemed to be a smile.

With a hint of sarcasm but also recognition of Secretary Dong's keen insight, he nodded slightly, tacitly agreeing with Secretary Dong's unspoken guess.
