Chapter 586 The original author’s analysis of Hei Xia Zi.
According to the analysis of the original work, do not substitute it into the TV series. This is also the author’s personal opinion.
The main reason is that there is too little information about Hei Xia Zi, and there is also very little written by San Shu, and a lot of it is just the author’s own thoughts.
First: Can Hei Xia Zi understand Zhang Qiling?
This is what the author has always wanted to ask, so he has his own answer.
The answer is: partial understanding, but not necessarily complete empathy.
Hei Xia Zi and Zhang Qiling have many similarities: both of them have immortal physiques (Hei Xia Zi's eyes are special, which may also be related to some secret of immortality), and both of them have experienced vicissitudes of life and carry heavy secrets.
Hei Xia Zi's "crazy" attitude towards the world (such as "laughing at life and death") contrasts with Zhang Qiling's silence and forbearance, but both of them are well aware of the taste of "loneliness".
Hei Xia Zi may understand the mission and pain that Zhang Qiling bears, but Zhang Qiling's inner world is too closed (even self-forgetful), and it is difficult for outsiders to truly reach it.
Second: Did Hei Xiazi know about Zhang Qiling? Did he tell Zhang Qiling?
-The answer is: Hei Xia Zi is likely to know Zhang Qiling’s past.
Hei Xia Zi is a descendant (or related) of the Qi Family of the Nine Gates, and has lived for a long time. He is very familiar with the entanglement between the Nine Gates, the Zhang Family, and the Longevity Plan. He may know Zhang Qiling's identity and mission through the Nine Gates archives or his own experience.
-He may not take the initiative to tell Zhang Qiling.
Hei Xia Zi's style of doing things is "seeing through but not speaking out", and he tends to let the parties discover the truth on their own (such as his attitude towards Wu Xie). Zhang Qiling's memory is already broken, and Hei Xia Zi may think that "the time is not right" or "meaningless interference", so he chooses to remain silent.
Third: Are they friends?
- The answer is: comrades-in-arms, but not necessarily friends in the traditional sense.
The two have collaborated in stories such as "Sand Sea" and "Reboot", and they trust each other's abilities and can even cooperate tacitly.
But Zhang Qiling's emotions are extremely reserved, while Hei Xiazi is used to keeping a distance. The two are more like "mutual sympathy among the same kind" rather than close friends who show their emotions openly.
Fourth: Which side is Hei Xia Zi on?
- The answer is: neutral on the surface, but actually leaning towards Wu Xie's camp.
Hei Xiazi seems to act casually, but he always follows his own principles.
He was hired by Xie Yuchen to assist Wu Xie in fighting against the Wang family and other forces for a long time, especially playing a key role in the "Sand Sea" plan. Although he occasionally showed dissatisfaction with the Nine Gates, he generally shared the same interests with the protagonist group.
Fifth: Hei Xia Zi's attitude towards Jiu Men
- The answer is: criticism and utilization coexist.
Hei Xia Zi is deeply disappointed with the corruption, infighting and short-sightedness of the Nine Gates (especially when the descendants of the old Nine Gates gradually become corrupt), but he is also well aware of the exploitability of the Nine Gates' resources.
He cooperated with Xie Yuchen for his own benefit, but also with the intention of "correcting the mistakes of the Nine Gates". His overall attitude was "watch from the sidelines and intervene when necessary".
---at last
Hei Xia Zi and Zhang Qiling have a "tacit understanding between loners". They respect each other but are not overly close friends.
Hei Xia Zi stands on the side of fighting against the Wang family and guarding the secret. He feels alienated from the Nine Gates but has to deal with them.
His position is complicated and always wanders in the gray area, but his core is still biased towards the interests of Wu Xie's team.
Hei Xia Zi is an important character in Nanpai Sanshu's novel "Grave Robbers' Chronicles" and its derivative works. His real name is unknown, but he is called "Hei Xia Zi" or "Black Glasses" because he always wears sunglasses. He is a very mysterious and complex character.
He and Zhang Qilin both possess the secret of immortality.
Similar to Zhang Qiling, Hei Xia Zi has a lifespan far beyond that of ordinary people. He is over a hundred years old but looks young.
He is not a member of the Zhang family, but for some reason he has acquired the ability to live forever (possibly related to early experiments or family secrets). This setting suggests that there is a huge secret related to the "ultimate" hidden behind it.
He also has multiple identities.
- Professional broker: Move between various forces, accept high-risk commissions, and demonstrate strong survival wisdom.
- A master of Xie Yuchen in a sense: He taught Xie Yuchen, the head of the Xie family, fighting and tomb-robbing skills, which shows that his abilities are unfathomable.
- Study abroad background in Germany: Proficient in multiple languages and anatomy, suggesting that he has received higher education, which contrasts with his underworld identity.
His personality traits:
1. The appearance of cynicism
On the surface, he is frivolous and humorous, and often faces danger with a teasing attitude (such as humming the "Green Pepper Fried Rice Song" in "Sand Sea"), but in fact he is dispelling the cruel fate.
This "crazy optimism" was his psychological defense mechanism against dark experiences.
2. A calm and rational core
He shows absolute rationality at critical moments, such as designing a "throat-cutting" scam to save Wu Xie in "Reboot", and even risking his life as a bargaining chip, reflecting his "cold determination under a gentle mask."
3. Lonely spectator
Although he cooperated with Wu Xie, Jie Yuchen and others, he always maintained a sense of alienation.
He has witnessed too many cycles of life and death, forming a detached observer's perspective, which contrasts with Zhang Qiling's silence.
3. Ability and Symbolism
His fighting talents:
- His melee combat ability is second only to Zhang Qiling, and he is good at using the black gold dagger.
- Accurate shooting skills, good at breaking mechanisms and tactical layout.
- His night vision is extremely strong (the sunglasses are actually to block strong light), which symbolizes that he can "see more clearly in the dark than ordinary people."
He is also a tragic metaphor:
- Visual Degeneration: The gradual blindness implies "cursed immortality", which contrasts with Zhang Qiling's amnesia.
- Green pepper fried rice: The obsession with cheap food is a metaphor for the desire and unattainability of "ordinary people's life".
---But he won't step in, he will always wander around.
He is also the plot driver:
As a key node connecting the Nine Gates, the Wang family, and overseas forces, it often promotes the development of the main line as an information intermediary (such as secret assistance in the "Sand Sea" plan).
- Compared with Zhang Qiling's "divinity", Hei Xia Zi highlights the complexity of "human nature": he is greedy for money and cherishes his life, but is willing to sacrifice for his beliefs.
- Mirroring Wu Xie's "innocence", it shows another possibility of survival in the tomb-robbing world - using chaos to fight against order.
He still has many unsolved mysteries:
1. Real name and family background (presumably related to the Manchu nobility).
2. The source of the immortality ability (whether it is related to "it" or the bronze door).
3. Relationship with Qi Yu (the name “Qi” may imply a descendant of the Qi family).
In general,
Hei Xia Zi is a contradictory person who combines the Eastern martial arts spirit with the Western mercenary characteristics.
His existence deconstructs the heroic image in traditional adventure narratives, and reveals the absurd nature of the tomb-robbing world with the attitude of a "crazy sober person".
Through this character, Nanpai Sanshu explores the spiritual dilemma of the immortals: how to maintain oneself in endless time, and the survival philosophy of finding a glimmer of light in the darkness.
The novel written by the author is based on the TV series and also on his own good wishes. The depth of the original work is higher than that of the TV series.
The TV series amplified certain emotions, hid many details, and changed many settings. It is just a similar framework to the original work, but two products of different nature.
