Chapter 695 Thief
Zhang Ran shifted her gaze from the book, looked up at the wrinkled old woman and gave her a polite smile, "Thank you, I don't eat instant noodles." She had just eaten before getting on the bus and was not hungry at all.
"You kid, you're still being polite to your grandma." The old woman stuffed the instant noodles directly into Zhang Ran's arms, turned around and walked to the bedside table, picked up the kettle and poured water for the instant noodles.
Zhang Ran did not return the instant noodles. Instead, he picked them up and put them on the bed, put down the book, and lay down to sleep.
The old woman was eating instant noodles. When she saw that Zhang Ran did not eat but fell asleep instead, she quickly finished her noodles and lay back on the bed to rest.
The entire carriage soon became quiet, but it was still noisy outside, with voices, noises, children crying, and all kinds of noises intertwined together.
It gradually became quiet at night, and in the second half of the night, the sound was almost entirely from snoring.
A rustling sound was heard in the carriage.
The man who had been sleeping during the day tiptoed down from the upper bunk, stood beside the bed, stared at Zhang Ran who was sleeping, but his hand reached for the schoolbag on the bed.
The bunk bed was too narrow, but his arms were long, so even if the bag was placed against the wall, he could still reach it. He picked up the bag by the strap and tried to lift it, but to his surprise, the bag was too heavy for him to lift.
With a creaking sound, Zhang Ran, who was originally sleeping on his back, suddenly turned over and faced outwards.
The man who was stealing was startled. Seeing that she did not open her eyes but just turned over, he immediately felt relieved. He gritted his teeth and exerted force, and finally picked up the schoolbag.
He knew that students' backpacks were heavy, but he didn't expect them to be so heavy! He didn't know what was in them!
I got the schoolbag and gently placed it on the ground. In the dim moonlight outside the window, I carefully unzipped the schoolbag and reached in.
"Ah!" A shrill scream resounded throughout the carriage, waking up even the passengers who were sleeping outside!
The man's right hand was tightly clamped by the mousetrap, and the pain was so excruciating that he suddenly looked up at the bed. In the darkness, the girl, who had sat up at some point, looked at him coldly.
The man was frightened by her eyes and screamed again.
With a click, the lights in the carriage suddenly lit up. The old woman quickly got out of bed and walked to the man's side and shouted, "Hey, what happened to you? How did your hand get caught in a mousetrap?"
Zhang Ran got out of bed, put on his shoes, bent down to pick up the schoolbag on the ground, and slowly put it on the bed.
With a bang, a man jumped down from the upper bunk opposite. He was wearing glasses and looked gentle. He pushed his glasses on his nose, walked closer and carefully observed the thief's trapped right hand, "You have to take this mousetrap out quickly, otherwise your hand will be broken and may need amputation."
The thief was terrified when he heard that he would have to have his limbs amputated, and he immediately asked for help: "Please help me!"
"I'll do it." The man with glasses volunteered and used both hands to pry the mousetrap open. The power of the mousetrap is much smaller than that of an animal trap, and an adult man is enough to pry it open.
The thief took out his right hand and checked it carefully. Although his fingers could move, they were in great pain. He thanked the man with glasses profusely, but with a fierce look in the corner of his eyes, he kept looking at Zhang Ran who was sitting on the edge of the bed.
The passengers standing outside the door and watching, not knowing who called the police, immediately asked as soon as they entered the compartment: "What happened?"
"It's okay, it's okay!" The old woman immediately stepped forward to smooth things over. "I just had a nightmare and woke everyone up by yelling twice."
