Chapter 129 Slytherin Attack
The Christmas holiday was over in the blink of an eye, and the students returned to Hogwarts. Most of them should have had a very good holiday. The sense of relaxation after the holiday diluted the previous panic atmosphere very well, except for Harry, who was still avoided.
Della spent a week after the holiday maintaining and expanding her social circle. Remarkably, she received two extra gifts.
First, there was Theodore Nott, who privately made a custom-made magic painting for Della as a Christmas gift. It was a scene from their previous stage play where Rob Martins sacrificed himself for loyalty, but Tracy was erased from the picture, and only Fatima's back was vaguely visible in the paradise.
It is a very beautiful painting, and also a very good expression of sincerity. If Della really embarks on the path of forming cliques in the future, she will hang up this painting well.
But now, just keep it well. Even if she accepted Theodore's sincerity, Della was not someone who liked to show leadership. She preferred a tacit partnership.
Then came Trevor Ewing. It must be said that his gift again was beyond Della's expectations. What was even more unexpected to Della was that he gave her a hardcover famous book in the Muggle world that praised human nature.
According to Trevor, his father is a mixed-race, and Ewing is his grandfather's Muggle surname. Although his family usually lives in the wizarding community, they go to their grandfather's house in the Muggle world to celebrate holidays. Under the influence of this world, he likes the Muggle world very much.
As a Slytherin, he knew that these things could not be said in the academy, so he often felt lonely. Della could understand this feeling, but she was reserved about what he said next: "It is because I feel that you are of the same kind as me there that I want to give you clothes and my favorite book."
It was really that Trevor's "feeling" came too late and too appropriately. Even if the implicit exclusion she received in her first year could be used as the reason why Trevor did not come to talk to her in the first year, it was still too coincidental that he sent her a book praising humanity when she began to think about the meaning of existence.
Della didn't believe in fate or destiny, so even though Trevor's two gifts were to her liking, Della couldn't simply appreciate this senior who might have ulterior motives.
Of course, she did a good job in saving face. If there was an assessment on polite words, then Della would undoubtedly be at the "O" level. In the last few times in Snape's office, she also responded well to her adoptive father's supervision of her investigation progress.
Although Professor Snape had a mouth that mocked everyone equally, he was not the kind of person who would force second-year students to investigate dangerous incidents. Della saw through the last bit of self-cultivation of her adoptive father and dealt with it with some nice words.
All in all, Della's life is uneventful now. Except for tinkering with alchemy at night, she has basically returned to her previous peaceful state.
I just don't know if Harry and the others have asked Hagrid about what happened fifty years ago. Della is still very curious about their progress, but they haven't spoken since that exchange.
She was not surprised by this result, which showed that Hermione fully understood her hint and fully respected her attitude.
However, this seemingly leisurely campus life was interrupted by a sudden attack after only two weeks.
Four Slytherin boys first disappeared for one night. They were pure bloods, so everyone thought at first that they had gone out to play somewhere, but were just unlucky to be discovered. Professor Snape even wrote a warning letter to send to their parents.
But on his way to the Owl House the next morning, Snape found the four boys lying on the grass, not knowing whether they were dead or alive, their bodies covered with mud and even with some dirt in their mouths.
When they were sent to the infirmary like that, it caused an uproar among the students, especially when the news came out that although these boys were not petrified, they were in an unknown coma. The students were all in an uproar.
Some said that this was another attack by the heir, others thought that this was revenge of the Muggles against the purebloods in the school. No matter what the truth was, the only thing that was certain was that neither the purebloods nor the Slytherins could rest easy any longer.
"It's been a week, and Madam Pomfrey still hasn't been able to wake Abbott and the others up."
"And where they had mud before, I heard it seemed to leave mud marks that can't be removed!"
"This is so weird. Sure enough, it was done by those Muggle-borns."
"It could also be that the heir has two measures. In addition to the Muggle-born, maybe he also has pure-bloods that he despises."
"Who is safe now? Merlin, do I need to find another half-blood to flatter me?"
"Merlin, do I really have to go to this school?"
The Slytherin common room was noisier than ever, because many people refused to go out unless necessary, and all gathered in the common room to spread out their homework and talk about recent news with their companions.
After lunch break, Della only walked through the lounge with Draco for a moment, and the anxious feeling of her classmates came over her. She could clearly feel that Draco's pace slowed down.
"Let's go." Della half turned around and held Draco's hand, looking at him soothingly, and led him forward with a little force.
Draco did not resist Della's actions, but his eyebrows were still tightly furrowed. He slowly asked, "Aren't you nervous at all, Della? My father wrote to me today and told me to be careful."
"If we panic, won't that allow the person behind the scenes to achieve his goal? I don't want to cooperate with him in this way." Della replied calmly.
Draco shuddered as he stared at Della's expressionless face. He suddenly felt that she was terrifyingly calm. Then a sense of frustration enveloped him, "How come you are always so calm..."
Draco said this with some complaints. He felt that his previous close protection of Della was simply a joke. However, this complaint only lasted for two or three seconds before it was interrupted by Della putting her hand on his face.
"Don't think too much, Draco. We have our own way of getting along with each other." Della held half of Draco's face and said gently.
Draco's face turned red instantly. Although he felt that he was still shorter than Della, those negative emotions disappeared at once. So he suppressed his shyness, held Della's hand and nodded.
"Very good, then let's go to the Potions classroom as soon as possible." Della smiled and led Draco forward.
Della looked no different from usual at this moment, but this behavior was actually somewhat outstanding in the situation of general panic. To be honest, the fact that Draco felt that she was "terribly calm" actually showed that Della was not so calm now.
In fact, as soon as the attack on the Slytherin pure-bloods came out, Della fell into a subtle state of anger and self-doubt.
You ask why? No one likes a situation that is too unexpected. Della even childishly blames the heir for breaking the rules of the game.
But soon, she fell into a more subtle feeling of pleasure and relief because Slytherin's comfort was suddenly torn apart.
These arrogant people are finally able to face reality, Della thought.
Although she is one of them, she has never been averse to self-criticism.
Della watched the incident unfold with such conflicting emotions. Sometimes she thought that maybe she should investigate, but sometimes she felt that her previous strategy of waiting and waiting was not a problem.
All in all, she hasn't done anything yet.
It was an anxious yet refreshing stalemate, and Della seemed to enjoy this feeling strangely.
