Chapter 148: Unexpected Gain
Chapter 148: Unexpected Gain (Medium Cup)
Revisiting the old place, it is another year when the birds are singing and the grass is lush.
At the foot of Lion Rock, the scenery remains the same as before.
Looking at the young students, Jiang Miao held Shuya's hand and couldn't help but sigh: "It's great to be young. In the blink of an eye, we are almost thirty years old."
Shuya touched her belly with a warm smile on her face: "Yes, it's good to be young."
Teacher Li, who was accompanying the two of them, asked with a smile, "A Miao, I see that your company has expanded to a really large scale this year! Will there be any pressure?"
The school knew about this mainly because Hailufeng Company started recruiting on a large scale at Lion Rock Agricultural University and other agricultural universities since October last year. After the autumn recruitment, it started spring recruitment at the beginning of spring.
Lion Rock Agricultural University alone recruited nearly 150 people.
With such a large scale of recruitment, the school management naturally guessed that Hailufeng Company was expanding rapidly.
That's why Teacher Li asked with concern. He was mainly worried about the capital chain pressure of Hailufeng Company. After all, as a teacher, Teacher Li also hoped that Jiang Miao and Hailufeng Company could develop smoothly instead of dying halfway.
"Thank you for your concern, teacher. My company currently has no funding issues. This year we will have over 3 billion in technology licensing fees, which is enough to support the company's various projects."
"More than 3 billion in technology licensing fees?" Teacher Li was also shocked.
Jiang Miao smiled and explained: "It is the Egyptian catfish fish meal technology. Currently, other domestic feed manufacturers have fully followed up."
There is nothing to keep secret about this matter.
After all, the Feed Association has issued an internal announcement. As long as one is willing to investigate, it is easy to find out the technology licensing fees that Hailufeng Company paid to the Feed Association. That is, for every ton of Egyptian catfish meal produced, Hailufeng Company paid 800 yuan in patent fees.
The reason for changing the name to the Feed Association and then authorizing other feed producers was mainly to respond to the WTO's anti-subsidy investigation.
Although these patent fees will not be paid to the Feed Association, but directly by the manufacturers to Hailufeng Company, there are certain differences between the two in essence.
In the WTO's anti-dumping and anti-subsidy investigation, if Hailufeng Company did not have this supplementary agreement with the Feed Association, then when the price of fish meal fell below RMB 5200 per ton, the association's compensation for the difference to Hailufeng Company would constitute a subsidy.
The current situation is that the association purchases technology licenses from Hailufeng Company and then licenses the technology to domestic feed producers. This is a commercial behavior. Anyway, the patent fee signed by Hailufeng Company and the Feed Association is a fixed amount. If the Feed Association reduces the price in the second authorization, it is a loss (subsidy) for the Feed Association.
Of course, the feed association also makes a profit. They charge 10 yuan per ton in technical service fees from feed manufacturers and can earn tens of millions every year.
Although Teacher Li was shocked by the technology licensing fee of Hailufeng Company, he was also happy for Jiang Miao: "It's good that there is no pressure. After all, college students are under great pressure to find jobs now. You can absorb more college students and reduce the pressure on the school."
"Teacher, Shuya has to take care of her pregnancy this year, and I have to manage the business, so we are not recruiting doctoral students this year. However, there was a doctoral student in the Wudaokou Medical Experimental Class who will apply to be Shuya's doctoral student through the school's relationship."
Teacher Li first expressed his understanding, then his expression was a little surprised: "A doctoral student from the medical experimental class of Wudaokou University? A doctoral student who transferred to Shuya? Although Shuya studied medicinal fungi before, isn't she working in the field of edible fungi now? That doctoral student in medicine is going to switch to studying edible fungi?"
Jiang Miao briefly explained the situation: "No, she is studying for a double doctorate. The student is almost reaching the graduation standard at Union Hospital and can apply for graduation next year. She wants to study gene therapy technology. Shuya and I happen to be familiar with each other, so since she was introduced by my friend, I decided to accept her."
"I see. That's not a big problem. With your current influence, the school will respect your choice." Teacher Li felt that the school would most likely not object.
After all, the doctoral supervisor of their school recruited a doctoral student from China Europe International Business University, so it would be very prestigious if they could tell others about it.
in the afternoon.
Jiang Miao and Shu Ya accepted the honorary doctorate certificates, appointment letters of distinguished professor and doctoral supervisor issued by the school in the auditorium organized by the school, and then they went on stage to give a speech.
There was intense applause from time to time in the conference hall.
clap clap clap...
On the tiered seats, several agronomy students were listening to Jiang Miao's speech while talking in low voices.
"Awesome! Xiaozi, are you really not planning to go to Hailufeng Company?" a chubby, round-faced boy asked in a low voice.
The boy wearing glasses next to him smiled and shook his head: "My hometown is in Gansu Province. I want to go back and start a business there."
Xiao Pang felt sorry for the boy with glasses: "That's such a pity. I have already submitted my resume and am currently receiving interview notifications. But I think it should be easy to pass. As long as you perform well in school, Hailufeng Company generally won't reject you."
"Xiaopang, what position did you apply for?" another boy wearing invisible braces asked curiously.
"Of course I'm going to the Mo'nan branch to be an agricultural technician. I'm a fellow villager of Khan." Xiaopang replied with a smile.
The man with braces teased: "I almost forgot that you are from the same hometown as that dead rat."
"But it's strange. Isn't the main business of Hailufeng Company aquatic products and edible fungi? What does this Mo Nan branch do?" The man with glasses looked curious.
“I heard it’s a desert agriculture project.”
"What?" The man with glasses raised his voice suddenly.
"Ahem!" A teacher in the front row turned around and reminded them to pay attention to the venue etiquette.
The man with glasses smiled awkwardly and lowered his head, then pulled the fat guy and the man with braces, lowered his head and asked in a low voice.
"Xiaopang, is the Mo Nan branch of Hailufeng Company really carrying out a desert agriculture project?"
"Why would I lie to you? There is a brief introduction to the project on their official website, but I don't know the details."
Xiao Zi, the man with glasses, looked hesitant.
As if seeing the hesitation of the man with glasses, Xiao Pang persuaded him, "It's too difficult for you to start a business in your hometown. You might as well work in Hailufeng Company for a few years to accumulate some experience. If you really want to start a business, you can quit and go back. At least you can save a lot of money."
The man with glasses was in a dilemma, thinking about his future plans. Although his family had dozens of acres of land, it was still unknown whether his parents would support him. During his college years, he had only saved 40,000 yuan by working part-time and doing summer jobs. The most his family could support him was 100,000 yuan, which only added up to 140,000 yuan.
It is obviously not easy to start a business with this little money.
After thinking it over, he felt that Xiaopang's suggestion was good. If he could work in Hailufeng Company for a few years first, he could accumulate experience and save money. If he didn't do well in Hailufeng Company, it would not be too late to go back and start his own business.
"I've decided to go back and write my resume. Xiaopang, can you lend me your resume template for reference?"
"no problem."
Before they knew it, Jiang Miao and Shu Ya had finished their speeches.
Jiang Miao ended his speech amid the envious gazes and enthusiastic applause of his younger classmates.
After this meeting is over.
Principal Yan and other school leaders invited Jiang Miao and his wife to their office, where they discussed two projects for which Hailufeng Company had applied for the National Science and Technology Progress Award.
"Professor Jiang, the internal review of your company's two projects has been completed. Both won first prize. The official announcement will be made in June. Congratulations."
"Oh? I'm really flattered." Jiang Miao originally thought it would be the second prize.
Professor Zhang, the dean of the Fisheries College, smiled and gave Jiang Miao an inside scoop: "Originally, the review committee was going to give the first prize to the artificial propagation technology of eels and the second prize to the artificial cultivation technology of white truffles. But later, with the support of Academician Liu from the Feed Association and the Lingnan Academy of Agricultural Sciences, the white truffle cultivation technology was also upgraded to the first prize."
"So that's it." Shuya suddenly realized. She knew that her project might not win the first prize. The main reason was that the artificial cultivation technology of white truffles was currently monopolized by Hailufeng Company, and a complete industrial chain had not been formed.
However, the artificial breeding technology of eels is different.
The continuous and stable supply of eel fry by Hailufeng Company has meant that the domestic eel farming industry is no longer limited by the catch of wild eel fry, while also reducing the farming costs of farmers.
Moreover, the accompanying eel rapid growth feed formula and eel geosminogen-free feed formula can further reduce breeding costs and expand the market audience for eels.
According to statistics from the Fisheries Association.
Since September last year, the market share of eels without earthy smell has skyrocketed, and the retail price is also higher than that of ordinary eels, an average of 10 to 15 yuan higher per kilogram.
As of early March this year, the proportion of eels without earthy smell has reached as high as 57%. It is estimated that by the end of this year, ordinary eels with earthy smell will be completely eliminated.
This kind of industry, which is related to the industrial chain and involves a large number of breeders, is eligible to receive the first prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award. Jiang Miao looked at Professor Ke, the dean of the School of Botany, and said, "Professor Ke, my wife wants to recruit a doctoral student from the medical experimental class of Wudaokou University this year. I hope the school can support her."
"Teacher Li discussed this matter with Principal Yan and me at noon. In principle, there is no problem." Professor Ke nodded.
"Thank you very much for the school's help."
"You're welcome." Professor Ke asked curiously, "Professor Jiang, I heard that your company has recently invested in desert agriculture in the south of the desert? You should be more cautious in this regard. Professor Yi's team at Yuzhou Jiaotong University has rich experience in desert transformation, but the cost is still high."
This is related to Professor Ke’s research field. He mainly studies land use changes, farmland protection and utilization, and optimal allocation of national land space.
However, the area he studies is mainly the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River. As a professional, Professor Ke is very clear about the current status of desert agriculture in China.
Although the desert soilification project of Chongqing Jiaotong University has been very successful, Professor Ke, as an industry insider, knows that the problem with desert soilification technology is not that the technology is not good, but that the cost is too high. At the same time, it needs to be promoted in deserts with relatively abundant precipitation or places with irrigation water nearby.
At present, the team's desert soilification technology does not take into account the costs of land leveling, agricultural equipment, etc., and simply uses special soil adhesives. The cost of consumables per acre of desert is 2000 to 3000 yuan.
You should know that if it is a desert that is leveled and worth transforming, plus land rent, agricultural equipment, agricultural irrigation water, harvesting and seedlings, the cost per mu is about 500 to 700 (not counting the farmer's personal labor input).
Obviously, the renovation cost of 2000 to 3000 yuan per mu is too high.
Take soybean planting in the southern part of the desert as an example. The average yield of ordinary soybeans per mu is about 120 kilograms, and the purchase price is 3.6 to 4.3 yuan per kilogram. Even if calculated at the highest price, the income per mu of soybeans is only 516 yuan; if the lowest price is reached, the income per mu of soybeans is only 432 yuan.
Of course, some soybeans that are well managed can reach more than 180 kilograms.
But it still doesn't make much money.
It can be seen from this that it is still very difficult to get farmers or agricultural companies to invest in desert soil transformation projects.
The main reason is that agriculture is not profitable, the investment cost is too high, the payback period is prolonged, and in the end, you may lose all your money.
Unless there are official subsidies or the cost of desert soil transformation technology drops to around one thousand yuan, it will be difficult to promote this technology in the near future.
Knowing this, Professor Ke specifically reminded Jiang Miao to control the scale of investment to avoid heavy losses.
"Thank you, Professor Ke, for your reminder. Our project does use desert land for planting, but our thinking is different from that of the Chongqing Jiaotong University team. We start with the seeds themselves and cultivate crops that can adapt to desert and saline-alkali land."
After hearing Jiang Miao's explanation, Professor Ke's eyes were full of surprise: "It seems that Professor Jiang has achieved certain results, otherwise he would not have invested so much."
"We have indeed achieved some results. We have carried out small-scale planting in artificially simulated saline-alkali land and sandy land and obtained good data."
Although he was not clear about the specific achievements of Hailufeng, Professor Ke still chose to send his blessing: "Then I also wish Professor Jiang and Hailufeng a successful start."
"Haha, thank you."
As they were chatting, Professor Zhang suddenly interrupted.
"Professor Jiang, the Fisheries College has a project. I wonder if Hailufeng Company is interested."
Jiang Miao smiled and asked, "Professor Zhang, please feel free to speak."
Professor Zhang quickly introduced him: "It's like this. Last year, a professor in our college and several students were doing research on the breeding of Yangtze River catfish. They found that after using the Egyptian catfish No. 4 feed produced by your company, the growth rate became much faster. After about four months of breeding, the body length reached about 50 centimeters and the weight reached about 2 kilograms."
"Oh? Yangtze catfish? It's the Yangtze catfish of the catfish family, right?" Jiang Miao instantly searched for relevant information from his memory.
"That's right, it's the big river catfish." Professor Zhang nodded with a smile.
Jiang Miao thought for a moment and said, "Feed No. 4 is designed for Egyptian catfish. The Great River Catfish is also a catfish. Their genes are very similar, so it makes sense that the feed can produce an effect."
"That professor and several students, although they discovered this, are not clear about the specific mechanism. I heard that Professor Jiang is coming here today. He was entrusted by me to discuss cooperation with Hailufeng Company."
"Okay, tonight!"
"Okay, I'll go inform him later."
In the evening, Jiang Miao had dinner with the school leaders.
So I met the professor in the administrative building of the College of Fisheries.
In addition to Dean Professor Zhang who brought the two together, there is Professor Li who is in charge of the research project, and his three students.
Professor Li's three students looked at Jiang Miao with surprise and admiration in their eyes. If the dean and teachers had not been there, they would have wanted to ask Jiang Miao for an autograph and take a photo with him.
After they sat down, one of the boys took the initiative to pour tea for everyone.
Jiang Miao spoke frankly: "Professor Li, I took some time to look at your project this afternoon. It is indeed of great research value."
"It seems our research was not in vain as Professor Jiang thinks highly of it." Professor Li's face immediately lit up with joy.
The two sides exchanged views on the research progress of the giant catfish.
Although there are still some wild giant river catfish, large-sized giant river catfish are basically extinct.
The characteristics of the big river catfish are that it has two whiskers and its whole body is green. The big river catfish grown in some areas with muddy river water are gray-yellow in color with gray spots. They are large in size, and the largest individuals can grow to weigh one hundred kilograms and be nearly two meters long.
You read that right, the body length can reach nearly two meters and the weight can reach one hundred kilograms.
This also led to the fact that when there was no fishing ban, the large river catfish in the Yangtze River were basically caught in one net.
Currently, artificially bred river catfish, if raised in a relatively good breeding environment and with the right feed, can grow to 40-50 centimeters in length and weigh 1.5-2 kilograms in a breeding cycle of about two years.
From this we can see that the big river catfish has great potential.
Although Egyptian catfish can be farmed in the Yangtze River Basin, it is an invasive alien species after all. In addition, there is a possibility of freezing in the Yangtze River Basin, which will cause the Egyptian catfish to die or stop growing.
The native giant catfish can adapt to the climate of the Yangtze River Basin.
If the growth rate of the giant catfish can be made to reach the level of the Egyptian catfish and the breeding cost can be made similar to that of the Egyptian catfish, then this fish can become the foundation of the aquaculture industry in the Yangtze River Basin.
And it is entirely possible.
Because the genes of the giant catfish contain genes that allow them to grow to super large sizes, as long as we know the genetic targets that stimulate their growth and feed them with special feed, we can make them grow quickly.
Jiang Miao talked with Professor Li and others for more than two hours.
Finally, Jiang Miao made a decision that Hailufeng Company would invest 5000 million yuan in their project team, to be invested in phases over five years, to conduct research on the rapid growth of giant catfish.
The research results are jointly held by Hailufeng Company, Shiziyang Agricultural University, and Professor Li's team. If the patent generates income, the three parties will share the profits in the following proportions: Hailufeng Company 66%, the university 15%, and Professor Li's team 19%.
Jiang Miao does not intend to do this kind of research himself.
After all, Hailufeng Company already has an Egyptian catfish breeding technology, and there is technical duplication in the large river catfish project.
Therefore, this project can be invested in, but Jiang Miao will not do it personally, so as not to produce a low-priced and high-yield large river catfish all at once, which will instead bring an impact on Hailufeng Company's Egyptian catfish industry. At least this project is not suitable for promotion in the short term.
Professor Li's team didn't think too much about it. They just thought about how they could get rich this time. Even if the project was supervised by Hailufeng Company's personnel, they could still gain a lot of benefits in a reasonable way.
What's more, if the research yields results, patent fees can be collected.
The next day, early in the morning, Jiang Miao said goodbye to Shuya, and five security personnel escorted Shuya to take the high-speed rail back to Shanmei.
Jiang Miao took the high-speed train to the Mo'nan Branch.
