Chapter 150: Shavia Nanni
"Dela, think about it again, are you really not the one who did these things?"
"After all, you are still so young. For some of the bad things you have done that you cannot bear, your subconscious may have activated a protective mechanism to make you forget about them."
"But if you do something wrong, you have to pay the price, right?"
"It's a small matter if you can't bear it alone, but what about Ginny? She admitted everything with her own mouth. I can't imagine what that little girl must look like when she was put on trial."
......
Saviya gave Della excessive amounts of truth serum every day, and constantly changed Della's original confession through some repetitive suggestive words. Della had not yet given in, but her replies contained more and more uncertain rhetorical questions, and Saviya also clearly saw the hesitation in Della's eyes.
Everything was going according to plan on Della's side, but no amount of verbal pressure from those who could testify against her would do anything.
Harry Potter has Dumbledore behind him, so using Veritaserum on him once was already risky; Ginny Weasley's father is in the Ministry, although he is only the director of a minor office, but the new Muggle Act makes him very close to Fudge, so Veritaserum cannot be used too often.
There was also Gullam Abate. Shavia originally thought that it would not be difficult to incite a pure-blood faction, but the boy refused to do anything. After a few interrogations, he started clamoring to go back to St. Mungo's. For the sake of his grandfather, Shavia could not use the truth serum at all.
Even with Della, Shavia had to use some tricks to keep her.
"Did anyone come to question us today?" Saviya, who had just come out of the interrogation room, turned her head and asked Kay, her assistant who was diligently handling documents.
"In addition to the daily visitation letters sent by Mr. Snape and Mr. Dumbledore, the investigators from the court also sent a letter requesting that Della Riddle be allowed to return to St. Mungo's." Kay immediately found three pieces of parchment, stood up and handed them to Shavia. "The investigators are still talking about the fourth report."
"Has the report written by that young boy passed the review?" Saviya took the parchment and frowned as she looked at the red mark on the top report.
This report completely eliminated Della Riddle as a suspect, and if it were made public, she would have to let the demon child go.
"I don't know the details, Miss Nanny, but I didn't find any internal public records of this report, so I wrote back to reject the investigator's request." Kay pursed her lips, blinked her brown eyes twice, and looked at Saviya with some uncertainty.
"Well done, Kay. I'll be out for a while." Obviously, Saviya was very satisfied with Kay's actions this time. She nodded, took the report and left.
Saviya always looked very oppressive in front of her subordinates, but she was very popular in the department. People greeted her along the way, and Saviya nodded in greeting. Finally, she walked to an antique mahogany door.
"Knock knock--" Saviya knocked twice and pushed the door open before the echo of the heavy wooden door faded away.
Seeing Shavia, Mike Veach's eyebrows twitched, and the wrinkles between his eyebrows became deeper. He looked at the report in Shavia's hand, and the carefully trimmed white beard under his nose moved with his mouth. "Are you here to ask about the report, Shavia?"
"Yes, uncle," Saviya closed the door and unceremoniously pulled the chair opposite Mike and sat down. She put the report with a red seal on the table, "How can such a biased report be approved?"
"Because Aidan Royea is an eyewitness and a reserve investigator, this report is a factual report." Old Mike glanced down at the bright red mark on the parchment. "And the two reports you relied on were only inferential reports. In fact, they did not list any direct evidence of the child's crime."
"Hmph, a little guy from Country M. How can the Ministry allow a foreign wizard to join the International Joint Investigation Team using the quota of Country Y's Ministry of Magic? It's not like we have no one here." Saviya snorted coldly, crossing her arms.
"There is no problem with the procedure. Milos has always done things cleanly. Besides, his mother is from Country Y."
"Procedure, procedure? Humph, I prefer the result, uncle. I will not let any guilty person get away." There was a cold light in Saviya's eyes.
"But you are the beneficiary of the program," Old Mike emphasized. The wrinkles between his brows became deeper and deeper, and he looked unusually serious. "If I hadn't cleaned up all the traces of the truth serum for you, the Ministry would have come after you long ago."
"Even if I'm caught, I will never regret what I did, uncle." Saviya's attitude was still so tough, and she didn't give in at all because of Mike's words, "Those Death Eaters should have been in Azkaban long ago!"
Old Mike was deflated. He rubbed his brow and said tiredly, "Let's not talk about those people for now. At least they have clear marks on their bodies. But what about the little girl this time? She is only twelve years old. What can she do——"
"She is Voldemort's daughter!" Saviya slammed the table and stood up.
"You just got this out of Harry Potter using Veritaserum, which is not suitable for interrogation. And do I need to tell you what you have used Veritaserum for over the years?"
Old Mike looked up and stared straight into Shavia's crazy eyes, then slowly softened his tone, "Shasha, I know you can't forget what happened before, but you can't target a child just because of a sentence."
"Voldemort's child," Savior said in a strange tone, and she added, "I will make her the youngest prisoner in Azkaban."
Old Mike looked at Shavia, his throat rolling, and finally he exhaled helplessly, "I can delay the report for two more days at most. You know, as long as the report is made public, even if you claim that Della Riddle has not woken up, she can't be forced to stay in the department."
"I understand, uncle," Saviya replied.
"Sasha, if you are willing to let her go, just use some sleeping potion to send her back to St. Mungo's, and you won't be at any risk this time." Old Mike couldn't help but advise again.
"Thank you for your concern, uncle." The expression on Shavia's face softened a lot, but her words did not show any sign of surrender. "But please believe me, I have sent so many cunning guys who escaped to Azkaban, and there will be no accidents this time."
"The day after tomorrow I will directly file an application for a trial against Della Riddle. As long as she can plead guilty or appear guilty in court, no one will question the adequacy of the trial," Shavia continued.
"..." Old Mike stopped trying to persuade her. He was silent for a while, then ordered her to leave in a hoarse voice, "You decide for yourself. Let's go, Shavia."
"Goodbye, uncle." Saviya turned around and left decisively.
After the door was closed, Old Mike sighed again and leaned back in his chair dejectedly. His eyes, embedded in his deep eye sockets, looked blankly at the desk in front of him. He reached out to open the drawer and took out the only scrapbook that he had abandoned halfway.
He opened the first page, which contained a slightly damaged black-and-white newspaper clipping. Although it was in black and white, the picture inside was creepy enough. Under the mark of a large skull spitting snakes, a man and a woman were tied back to back on chairs, with marks of harmful magic all over their bodies. They were tortured beyond recognition, and even the bodies they brought back were mutilated.
They were Shavia's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Nanni, who became famous for publicly trying a group of Death Eaters.
Old Mike can still remember the ambitious look of Savia's father, Bertrand Nanni, in front of him. However, the couple who had just been excited were soon retaliated by Voldemort himself.
The autopsy report said that the couple had severe muscle spasms - this was most likely left over from multiple tortures, but they had no fatal injuries and were slowly dragged to death by one curse after another.
Voldemort first captured them, then brought them to a Death Eater gathering, where he tortured them to death with the Cruciatus Curse and other damaging spells.
As to whether it was Voldemort who did it or the Death Eaters who did it collectively, there was no need to argue about it. Savior must have remembered the mark of the skull spitting snake deeply and vowed to put all the murderers in jail.
Old Mike flipped through a few more pages of the clipping book. The headlines on them were all like "xxx was sentenced to serve his sentence in Azkaban". All the xx here were Death Eaters who escaped trial, and without exception, they were all obtained by Savia to confess their crimes because of some other incidents.
Old Mike was proud of his good friend's daughter at first, thinking that she had inherited her parents' intelligence, courage, and fearlessness of authority, until he discovered the whereabouts of the abnormal truth serum related to Saviya.
The Nanni couple were not wealthy, and their inheritance was probably not enough to support Savia's horrific usage of truth serum, so Savia found a way to mobilize the department's resources, and was discovered by old Mike who paid special attention to her.
Old Mike helped her clean up the traces, then thought with horror about the suspects that Shavia had dealt with, and immediately ran to question Shavia.
When questioned, Saviya showed no guilt at all. Her plump cheeks were sunken, and her sad and numb eyes were shining with a look that Mike had never seen in Gryffindor's eyes. It was as if all the enthusiasm of Gryffindor in the past had burned out, leaving only the ashes. She only said, "I have to do it."
At that moment, Old Mike even doubted whether the people she sent in had committed any crime this time.
He still suspects this, but has never investigated it. Just like the newspaper clippings in his hand that he stopped following up after realizing a little bit of the truth, Old Mike avoided the news.
After all, facing that photo, who could reasonably dissuade this child who had lost both parents?
Old Mike couldn't. Having been upright all his life, this was the first time he abused his power for personal gain for someone, and then it happened again and again.
