Chapter 11 An Interlude in Transfiguration
The first class was Professor McGonagall's Transfiguration class. When Della arrived at the classroom, the first row was already full. Except for Hermione on the far left, the others seemed to be children who were sorted into Ravenclaw yesterday.
She looked around twice, then chose to sit in the empty seat on the leftmost window of the third row, where there was still a little light in the morning.
Professor McGonagall had not arrived yet. Della opened her textbook, but without looking at it, she just propped up her head and looked out.
It was much more beautiful outside now than it was pitch black last night. The tower tops, whose styles were hard to tell from which period, were shining in the morning light, and the fine dust added color to them, adding a bit of hazy beauty.
The castle, wizard robes, pointed hats, and those small pots and scales give it a completely fantasy medieval style.
While magic is fun, the bright colors of the Muggle world are nice too.
Della twirled the wand in her hand, thinking idly.
"Ms. Riddle, twirling your wand around is not a good habit."
Professor McGonagall's majestic voice suddenly came from above her head, scaring Della so much that she sat up straight reflexively, feeling a little frightened.
"Yes, Professor McGonagall."
She responded to the professor in a low voice. McGonagall glanced at her and continued walking forward. At this moment, a soft sneer came from the side. Della turned her head and saw Draco and several of his brothers covering their mouths and laughing at her.
He was just across the aisle from her, and he really didn't mind it. Della thought so and shrank towards the window, looking like she didn't want to pay any attention to him.
Her behavior made Draco feel annoyed again. How could this Mudblood be so calm?
However, no matter how hard Draco glared at her, Della, who was reading a book with her head down, no longer paid him any attention, which made Draco even more annoyed.
The classroom was almost full, with only Potter and the red-haired Weasley yet to arrive. Professor McGonagall looked at the classroom and then at the watch. She first asked the students in the classroom to study on their own, then silently turned into a cat and jumped onto the podium, continuing to scan the students who were lowering their heads.
That should be the Animagus I saw in the book. Professor McGonagall is so awesome!
Della was amazed in her heart, and had been secretly looking up at Professor McGonagall. After receiving the death gaze from the cat, she immediately lowered her head and pretended to be reading a book seriously, but was silently worried for herself.
About ten minutes later, there were chaotic footsteps and Harry and Ron finally came in breathlessly. However, they were obviously more unfortunate than being late. They didn't know that the cat staring at them on the podium was Professor McGonagall.
"Look! Harry, I told you we wouldn't be late, and Professor McGonagall isn't even here yet!"
As soon as Ron finished speaking, they stared in amazement as the cat on the podium jumped down and smoothly turned into the majestic Professor McGonagall.
"I should really turn one of you into a pocket watch so I can remind you not to be late."
Ron and Harry both blushed and stood there awkwardly, unable to say a word.
"Why, do you need me to turn you into a map so you can find a place to sit down?"
Professor McGonagall's lukewarm words were like a spell, but also like amnesty. The two of them immediately started moving with red faces. There was no empty desk in the whole classroom, so Harry sat awkwardly in the empty seat next to Della, and Ron sat next to Hermione very reluctantly.
The seat next to him, which had never been occupied because Malfoy's glare from the other side of the aisle was too terrifying, was finally filled.
Della gave Harry a narrow smile, which made the boy blush again.
"Okay, quiet down, now let's start the class."
Everyone stopped making a little noise and Professor McGonagall started today's class.
Today's learning content is to turn toothpicks into silver needles. Everyone was given an ordinary little toothpick. The spell didn't sound difficult, and Professor McGonagall seemed to perform it very easily.
Della thought about the instructions in the textbook, looked at the magic wand in her hand, and waved it tentatively at the toothpick, "Transform everything!"
The toothpick in front of her obediently turned into a shiny silver needle, which seemed to have some patterns on it. Before Della could take a closer look, Professor McGonagall came over. She picked up the silver needle, looked at it carefully for a while, and nodded.
"Very good, Miss Riddle even wrapped a small snake around the silver needle, a very beautiful Transfiguration spell, ten points to Slytherin!"
Professor McGonagall nodded at her and put the needle back on her desk. Many people looked at her with envy and amazement. Della was a little embarrassed and lowered her head, pretending to look at the silver needle carefully.
The second person to complete the Transfiguration spell was Hermione, who won five points for Gryffindor. Following her were a few students from Ravenclaw, but Professor McGonagall did not give them any extra points.
"Raise your arms a little more, and don't prolong the stress at the end."
Della whispered a reminder to Harry, who looked a little impatient beside her. Harry smiled at her gratefully and began to wave his wand again. The toothpick that had been indifferent finally began to change. Although it was a bit rough, it was still successful.
After Professor McGonagall looked at and recorded it, Della felt Harry jump for a little bit of joy. They smiled at each other, then lowered their heads and continued to experiment with spells to see if they could create something more interesting.
Speaking of which, where is the young master? Della paused waving her wand. She lowered her head slightly and glanced at Malfoy, who always had an arrogant look on his face. He was waving his wand anxiously at the toothpick that never changed. His pale face turned red with anxiety, and Della seemed to see shiny beads of sweat lying down.
I have to say, this face is indeed fair and cute, if the expression on the face wasn't so annoying.
Della's gaze became a little presumptuous at this time. Draco noticed it and glared back at her hatefully. Della felt guilty for no reason and immediately retracted her gaze, pretending to concentrate on casting a spell and waving her wand.
"Everything changes shape!"
There was nothing wrong with the gestures and pronunciation, but what she was thinking about just now was the light golden hair, and Della felt a little uneasy.
Sure enough, no matter how the spell was cast, it was always straight. Now it has become a cursive "M", Malfoy's "M"? It's still the same light blond as his hair. It's not good to show it to others.
However, before Della could wave her wand again, the big golden M in front of her had already been picked up by Professor McGonagall, and she nodded with great satisfaction.
"It seems that Miss Riddle is very talented in Transfiguration. She can already turn straight things into curved things in the first class. Ten points for Slytherin!"
"But why did you want to change into this?" Professor McGonagall asked with some confusion.
"Professor, my snake's name is Maggie." Della gave an awkward but polite smile and stretched out her hands to take the golden M handed to her by Professor McGonagall.
"Hmm..." Professor McGonagall looked at her and nodded and walked away again. The classmates who were staring at her in the classroom also seemed to have an expression of enlightenment, except for Malfoy.
This girl must be showing off to me!
Draco stared at the black-haired girl who lowered her head again in frustration. With red eyes, he looked at the toothpick in front of him that had not changed yet, and cast the spell again: "Transfiguration of All Things!"
Well, emotions give people strength. Draco skipped the silver needle stage and directly conjured a cursive D. The more amazing thing was that this D was composed of two snakes biting and entangled together. The tightly entangled look was even a bit ambiguous.
It's all because of that mudblood with the snake on his body!
When facing Professor McGonagall's question, Draco had only this thought in his mind, but he still reacted quickly and said, "Professor, it's Draco's D. I also thought of our school emblem."
Although Professor McGonagall was surprised at how Malfoy's Transfiguration was so slow, she still generously gave Slytherin five points, which made Draco feel much better, and his little golden head raised again.
Now, Della and Draco are tied. Anyway, no one should bring this up after class. Both of them are equally bad.
Gee tut.
